Director of Communications and Media Relations

Are you a seasoned communications professional with expertise in media relations and strategic communications? Are you passionate about effecting change in criminal justice reform? We are looking for a Vice President of Communications to lead our organization's communication strategies and marketing efforts. As a pivotal part of our senior leadership team, you will be instrumental in furthering our mission of creating positive transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the strategic planning, creation, and distribution of all communication materials.

Media Relations

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with media outlets to maximize coverage of our initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and oversee crisis communication efforts.

Brand & Content Development

  • Establish a distinctive brand identity and voice for the organization.
  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of communication materials, including web content and social media.

Team Management

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing communications team.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes creativity and innovation.

Digital Engagement

  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies to promote organizational programs.
  • Utilize data and analytics to enhance digital outreach efforts.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to amplify advocacy efforts.

Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 10 years of communication experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proficient in media relations, strategic communications, and brand development.
  • Outstanding writing and editing abilities.
  • Skilled in managing digital media and content creation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and cultivate high-performing teams.
  • Familiarity with advocacy and criminal justice issues is a plus.
