The Opportunity:

Duties

Washington State University (WSU) seeks a Director of College Access Programs. As the Director, you will lead multiple initiatives that provide fundamental support for low-income and first-generation high school students in their preparation for and ultimate success in higher education. You will be responsible for the management and leadership of programs within the Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) at WSU. OAE develops and leads undergraduate student success initiatives, enabling achievement and engagement in the highly impactful academic experiences of WSU. You will have primary responsibility for planning, organizing, resourcing, and managing programs, services, and assessment. Other duties include:

  • Supervision, management, and assessment of professional, faculty, graduate and undergraduate staff.
  • Representing the programs and department on internal and external committees.
  • Helping lead and develop the department.
  • Carrying out the mission and strategic plan through effective and efficient operations and the development of opportunities.

OAE offers a hybrid model (some remote days and some in-office days) for professional employees, depending on job responsibilities, employee experience, and department needs. We recognize the benefits of flexible working arrangements, as well as engaging with our students and colleagues in person. Please note that we are located on the Pullman campus, and this position requires in-office collaboration several days a week. The requirements of this position cannot be accomplished with a fully remote schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Positions require a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require an applicable license and/or certification.
  • Demonstrated organizational diversity knowledge and a strong understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, families, and other constituents from different backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience in strategic planning, formulation, design, implementation, and tracking.
  • Experience creating/auditing administrative procedures and internal controls

Monthly Salary

$5,485.73 - $6,944 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Temporary End Date

This is identified as a temporary position, ending on August 31, 2025, due to the nature of the grant funding. However, grants supporting College Access Programs have been established since 2017.
