Director of Claims
The Director of Claims is a member of the Critical Path Controls division’s management team and is responsible for the focus group that provides claims avoidance and claims management services to clients.
Work location will be a hybrid of remote and client sites with occasional visits to the corporate office in Bethesda, Maryland.
Essential Functions
Claims Group
- Develop, manage, and direct a staff of professionals to perform claims services
- Support clients in the identification, quantification, and mitigation of schedule related risks
- Perform construction claims analysis including as-built schedule preparation, schedule analysis, document review and organization, key issue analysis, graphic exhibits, and input to expert reports
- Creation of Time Impact Analyses (TIAs) and Requests for Equitable Adjustments (REAs)
- Analyze and prepare analysis of project-costs for direct, indirect, time-related events.
- Develop and analyze contractor loss of productivity claims
- Analyze delays, both contemporaneously and forensically using industry recognized methodologies
- Work with project leaders to understand assigned project responsibilities and keep projects on schedule
- Communicate progress and expectations, escalating problems to the K2 management team timely for awareness or resolution
- Responsible for managing the group's budget on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, including but not limited to staffing, consultants, and software. Provide reporting that aligns with the budget management practices of other K2 groups.
Business Development & Strategy
- Develop business development strategies and partnerships with key stakeholders
- Research technology advancements in construction project controls and contribute expertise to proposals
- Develop K2 vision, strategy, and roadmap for the claims group
- Responsible for new proposals, contract negotiations and timely invoicing and collections
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related discipline
- 15+ years of claims experience in the construction industry
- Hands-on experience preparing formalized claim deliverable documents on behalf of contractors and subcontractors (includes labor productivity claims, forensic schedule analysis, and time impact analysis).
- Expert report preparation, litigation support, and testimony experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of the Critical Path Method of scheduling theoretically and as it applies to the project
- Understanding of schedule delay principles and techniques
- Ability to understand and accurately interpret construction documents (drawings, specifications, contracts/general conditions) at all levels of design
- Ability to understand and analyze construction project cost reports, labor distribution reports, and other project accounting information
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability and experience developing policies and procedures for construction projects
- Capable of working independently and as a team member under tight deadlines with changing priorities
- Skilled at developing relationships with owners, subcontractors, senior leaders, and project teams

Preferred Experience
- AACE International Certifications (Certified Cost Professional – CCP, Certified Forensic Claim Consultant – CFCC)
- Experience working for a general contractor or MEP contractor
