Young Life is a Christian ministry that reaches out to middle school, high school, and college students in all 50 of the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.


About the Director of Global Benefits:

The Director of Global Benefits will be responsible for the administration, operation, and global considerations of Young Life health and retirement plans as well as the training and management of HR/Benefits staff. This role makes recommendations for plan design, oversees implementation of new products, manages vendor relationships, and is responsible for monitoring and complying with federal and state regulations.


The Director of Global Benefits Responsibilities Include:

Benefit and Retirement Plans

  • Ensure efficient and effective operations and processes of all benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, RX, flexible spending, health savings accounts, life and disability.
  • Oversee the management and operation of the Young Life retirement plans.
  • Oversee the non-medical benefits programs offered to staff in the health plan.
  • Oversee the creation of materials that will be used to inform staff about various coverages under the Young Life
  • Benefits Plan (including website materials).
  • Develop a comprehensive communication strategy aimed at effectively conveying the value and significance of our benefits package to staff.
  • Responsible for overseeing the updating and maintaining of coverage information in the Young Life Benefits Summary Plan description.
  • Responsible for management of the Young Life Flexible Spending Account Plan.
  • Manage and grow current and future vendor relationships.
  • Participate in appropriate vendor meetings and conferences.
  • Annually determine premiums to be used for internal budget purposes.
  • Responsible for creating and managing systems that account for monthly plan costs and insurance premiums.
  • Responsible for annually negotiating and managing all benefits insurance renewal quotes.
  • Maintain and analyze quarterly statistics on benefit plan costs and their impact on the overall plan.
  • Assist the current chairperson with leading the benefits and retirement plan committees.
  • Annually review and make changes to the retirement investment policy.

Operations, Supervision, and Training

  • Manage, coach, and develop benefits department staff.
  • Oversee training to staff at various training conferences concerning the benefits and retirement plans.
  • Monitor and lead benefits related projects and systems.
  • Assess processes and established procedures to continually make improvements for standardization and efficiencies.
  • Ensure vendors perform at a high level of service and according to service level agreements.
  • Oversee all benefit compliance related activities and projects.
  • Create and oversee distribution of communication pieces to staff.
  • Review and update summary plan descriptions and plan documents.
  • Oversee annual open enrollment process.
  • Monitor and evaluate claim appeals.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new benefit offerings.
  • Work closely with the benefits strategy team to implement plan design and rate changes.

Global Benefits

  • Work with senior leadership to evaluate benefit offerings around the globe.
  • Evaluate and develop benefit and retirement systems in countries outside the U.S., contributing to the design and implementation of international benefits processes and programs. This includes conducting market competitive reviews, ensuring global internal consistency, governance, and performing financial analysis.
  • Build strong relationships and collaborate with all levels of the mission to ensure benefits strategies align with and support organizational business and HR strategies.
  • Provide research, technical expertise, advice, and guidance regarding international benefits matters to leadership.


What You Bring:

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Director of Global Benefits:


Education & Experience

  • BA or BS degree is preferred with an emphasis in human resources or business management.
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in the benefits field.
  • Three to five years’ experience in a leadership or management position.
  • Knowledge of retirement plans.

“Because of Young Life’s exclusive Christian purposes of evangelism and discipleship as set forth in its Articles of Incorporation and in these Bylaws, and to reflect what has always been and will continue to be the position of Young Life, specifically the Christian belief that each and every employee and volunteer of the corporation should minister as a servant of God with the primary responsibility of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and, as such, is an integral part of the Christian mission and ministry of the corporation, Young Life shall only employ individuals or enlist volunteer leaders who: (a) profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord; and (b) subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.

Therefore, employees and volunteers of Young Life, during working and nonworking hours, shall: (i) be ready, willing and able to fulfill such ministry functions as may be required by the organization; (ii) refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life, and (iii) abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.”



Pay Transparency:

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is outlined below. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

$110,000-$130,000 per year.
