Director of Special Event Operations

The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is looking for a Director of Special Event Operations who shares a passion for excellence and who infuses enthusiasm into everything they do. Our Director of Special Event Operations has the opportunity to shape our guest experience by providing exceptional knowledge of the Resort and exemplifying the Golden Rule in each interaction. Work authorization required.

What You’ll Do

  • Select, train, evaluate, lead, motivate, coach, and discipline all employees, supervisors and assistant managers in the Hotel’s Banquet Department to ensure that established cultural and core standards are met.  Continue to motivate and engage long-tenured employees.  Focus on long-range strategic planning for outlet operation and development of the execution plan.
  • Develop and maintain effective lines of communication with all employees. The ability to be visible in the operation; assist when needed, provide recognition, promote good public relations, and handle complaints, concerns or special requests for guests, clients, and group contacts.
  • Coordinate set-up requirements for hotel and off-site functions according to the banquet event orders and review any necessary changes with Catering Managers prior to the event taking place.  Connect directly with group contacts once onsite and relay all necessary information to Catering and Conference Services Managers and Banquet management team to ensure that all details of the function are carried out.  Facilitate the quality and timeliness of all food items in partnership with the culinary team.  Provide our guests with knowledge of wine and spirits in an elegantly appointed environment dedicated to an attentive and distinctive experience.
  • Monitor trends in catering/banquets and produce comparison shops.  Work closely with the Assistant Director of Food & Beverage, Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef, and Director of Catering to design an effective menu and wine list while ensuring excellent product quality at a fair price.  Attend regular operational meetings to ensure effective coordination and cooperation between departments.
  • Understand and drive labor standards in partnership with Finance.  Control labor and operating expenses through effective scheduling, budgeting, purchasing decisions, and inventory and cash control. Clearly describe the cause of variance and implement change as necessary.
  • Observe the physical condition of facilities and equipment in the banquet area and make recommendations for corrections and improvements as needed.  Ensure that follow-up on pending work order tickets is completed in a timely manner so as not to compromise guest experience.

  • Ability to accurately read and work with computer systems.
  • College education or equivalent experience
  • Experience by position is from three to five years of employment in the related position with Four Seasons or other organization.
  • Strong Customer Service skills
