Director of Assessment

The Director of Assessmentprovides oversight and guidance for all aspects of University assessment and accreditation compliance in furtherance of the institutional mission and strategic goals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Promotes awareness of the University mission and strategic goals through effective assessment practices.
  • Manages the assessment process for academic and administrative units; notifies units of report due dates and ensures that deadlines are met; follows up with support where needed.
  • Coordinates with other leadership offices to facilitate the implementation of educational and institutional effectiveness procedures.
  • Adheres to the Educational Effectiveness Policy and Procedures governing assessment of student learning and achievement of educational goals.
  • Oversees learning outcomes assessment of all University programs and general education assessment at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Collaborates with faculty assessment fellows to provide peer support for assessment of program learning outcomes and the general education curriculum.
  • Provides training for faculty and administrators in all aspects of assessment.
  • Maintains and creates assessment resources that support all aspects of assessment; keeps resources updated and ensures their accessibility to faculty and administrators.
  • Produces annual reports on learning outcomes and general education assessment.
  • Communicates the results of all assessment to administration for planning purposes.
  • Manages the academic program review (APR) process, including training of faculty, maintenance of resources, and general support throughout the process.
  • Supports accredited programs in the writing and submission of all annual reports, self-studies, and special responses.
  • Maintains familiarity with standards of all accrediting bodies affiliated with University programs.
  • Adheres to the Institutional Effectiveness Policy and Procedures governing assessment of planning, resource allocation, institutional renewal processes, and availability of resources.
  • Maintains updated assessment forms and rubrics to ensure clarity, relevance, and usefulness to faculty and administrators.
  • Updates all resource materials (e.g., handbooks, guidelines, videos, PowerPoints) that support assessment and accreditation.
  • Maintains a calendar of all assessment and accreditation activities; ensures that senior administration is informed of all deadlines and required University responses.
  • Produces a monthly University Assessment Update for the University community.
  • Maintains a SharePoint site with all assessment information and resources.
  • Monitors on a regular basis University compliance with the Standards for Accreditation and Requirement of Affiliation of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), especially Standard V: Educational Effectiveness Assessment and the assessment component of Standard VI: Planning, Resources, and Institutional Improvement.
  • Serves as the University administrator of the electronic course evaluation system.
  • Supports programs in writing and submission of applications and responses to the New York State Department of Higher Education (NYSED).
  • Develops and distributes a NYSED-compliant syllabus template for use by all faculty and provides training in syllabus writing; verifies annually that Deans have a functional syllabus collection and review process.
  • Maintains and creates resources for faculty and students who use the electronic course evaluation system and provides course evaluation data to administrators upon request.
  • Acts as liaison to the Executive Policy Team to ensure compliance with policy review schedule, updating of procedures, and policy creation process.
  • Participates and generates required materials for internal audits of University assessment processes.
  • Plans and executes continuous improvement measures that ensure compliance with NYSED and MSCHE requirements, alignment with best practices in assessment, and progress toward the University mission and strategic goals.

Qualifications: Master's degree required; doctoral degree preferred; and relevant experience in higher education assessment and accreditation.
