PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening..

Position Summary

The Director of Assessment collaborates with offices and committees across the institution in order to ensure continuous improvement in our academic programs and administrative offices. Supported by a research assistant and in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs team as well as other campus stakeholders, the Director of Assessment supports institutional accreditation compliance, creates/gathers, analyzes, and publishes effectiveness data, and assists individuals and offices develop goals, assessment plans, and ultimate use data for decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an institutionally-accredited college or university in relevant field
  • Two years of experience working with data and/or in a higher education setting (IE Institutional Effectiveness)
  • Knowledge and skills related to understanding and implementation of the assessment cycle for continuous improvement
  • Experience using software supporting collection and tracking of data for assessment of academic programs, administrative units, and learning outcomes
  • Data engineering skills (Excel, Google Sheets, Google Data Studio, Access, etc.)
  • Strong written communication skills
  • A desire for lifelong learning

Responsibilities

Compliance:

  • Support ongoing compliance with regional accrediting standards (SACSCOC) with regard to assessment documentation for all academic programs and cross-curricular outcomes stated in the catalog, as well as for all reporting from administrative offices. Regularly audit assessment work of reporting units for compliance and quality and provide assistance and resources as necessary.
  • Serve as the liaison between compliance software and the university to maintain site operability, pull reports as needed, and adjust processes when necessary.
  • Gather and produce documentation with supporting narrative for accreditation renewal (including ongoing collaboration on the QEP Assessment Plan / Impact Report).

Assessment Support / Collaboration

  • Support the collection and storage of strategic planning artifacts across the University as applicable.
  • Provide education, resources, and support for Brenau employees who are required to choose/design assessment tools, administer assessments, set goals, compile data, interpret data, and use data for decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain program assessment matrices with faculty program leads.
  • Work with General Education (“AKA Liberal Education”) Curriculum Committee to ensure successful, regular assessment of outcomes.
  • Partner with the Office of Institutional Research as appropriate, including co-managing shared Research Assistant.
  • Conduct the annual spring Student Assessment Day activities and Brenau-wide student testing sessions, and produce reports on these events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs.

SupervisoryResponsibilities

Supervise part time research assistant and others temporarily involved in major projects and initiatives.

Work Hours

37.5 hours per week. Typically 8:30am-5pm M-F. Hours may be extended / altered to meet the needs of the department.

Environmental And Working Conditions/ Physical Demands And Aptitudes

Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Travel Requirements

Infrequent travel may be required.
