Summary

The Director of Advising & Student Success Center will plan, develop and coordinate services offered through the Academic Advising and Student Success Center including advising, disabilities, placement, tutoring, and additional strategies to assist students in academic success. The goal of the center is to assist all students in meeting their educational and career goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate activities and personnel assigned to the Student Success Center.
  • Coordinate academic advising for the entire HCC population - campus, regional, technical center, and online - including selecting, training, and evaluation of advisors.
  • Serve as an academic advisor.
  • Ensure that academic degree planning sheets are revised to reflect program and course curriculum changes.
  • Direct student assessment, placement, and developmental student tracking activities.
  • Direct and provide appropriate disabilities services for Highland campus students including oversight of HCC's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and oversees Regional, Online, and Technical Center Disability Coordinators.
  • Supervise HCC sponsored adult and student tutoring positions.
  • Work with regional student service employees and concurrent employees to coordinate placement testing.
  • Provide career information, internships, or job opportunities for students using available resources.
  • Serve as a liaison between transfer students, four-year schools, and HCC student services.
  • Conduct regular Academic Advising meetings and training sessions.
  • Work with the Vice President of Student Services' office to review new student files and make advising assignments before enrollment sessions.
  • Work with the Vice President of Student Services' office to plan Enrollment Days.
  • Supervise and coordinate COL 103 College Success class.
  • Provide advisors with accurate information about transfer information, institutional policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Coordinate personnel for testing activities at enrollment for new students.
  • Monitor the course placement of students into developmental courses and other pre-requisite courses.
  • Monitor and maintain advising folders for each advisor until graduation, transfer, or certification.
  • Coordinate company recruiter campus visits.
  • Lead early academic alert retention processes. Monitor students on Academic Probation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises two staff members (a part-time office assistant and a full-time student success center employee). Directly responsible for the supervision of part-time student tutors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participating in the interviewing and hiring process established by the Human Resources Department; training employees and tutors; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education And/or Experience

Master's Degree in student services administration, organizational leadership, educational leadership, higher education, counseling, or related field. Prefer two years relevant work experience, preferably in higher education. Computer literacy required.

Must demonstrate commitment to educational training for students and rapport in working with fellow instructors, administrators, counselors, and community.
