CalWest's client school, Southwestern Academy is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as the Director of Admissions.

The ideal candidate possesses a knowledge of and experience at independent schools and has school admissions experience. This position requires an individual who is self-motivated, has the ability to work independently, and has a deep sense of purpose.

As an accredited college preparatory boarding and day school, Southwestern Academy welcomes co-ed domestic and international students in grades 6 to 12. Located on seven beautiful acres in the quiet and safe community of San Marino, for 100 years we have imparted guidance and a strong academic foundation for young people. With diverse enrollment from almost 20 countries, we are dedicated to offering our students a personalized, stimulating curriculum while providing compassionate, nurturing care that assists each individual to prepare for college and the world beyond.

General Description

The Director of Admissions holds a key position in the administration of Southwestern Academy being responsible for overseeing and participating in all aspects of the admissions and enrollment processes of the school. The Director of Admissions meets regularly with the senior administrative team thus helping in the overall guidance of the Academy’s program.

Salary is competitive and based on qualifications and experience. A generous and flexible benefit package is included. The position is full-time in-person for twelve months. School-owned housing is available.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate Admissions Department efforts in recruiting and enrolling new students and retaining current students.
  • Reviewing and interpreting applicant information, including test scores, extracurricular activities, and grades.
  • Helping to lead the admissions decision-making process as student applications are evaluated and accepted.
  • Providing students, parents, and guardians with information regarding admissions requirements and processes, financial aid applications, enrollment issues, or other procedures.
  • Engaging in the recruiting process by planning, coordinating, and overseeing promotional events, campus tours, student interviews, and other admissions activities.
  • Promoting Southwestern Academy to prospective families, feeder schools, educational consultants, and referral organizations both internationally and domestically.
  • Traveling internationally and domestically, representing the school at conferences and fairs.
  • Identifying and communicating trends, changes, and other necessary information to administration when indicated.
  • Directing the update, revision, and preparation of all admissions materials.
  • Supervising, hiring, coaching, and evaluating admissions staff members.
  • Developing marketing strategies.

  • Understanding of statistics, admissions requirements and procedures, school funding, and financial aid application processes.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, networking, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as necessary.
  • Proficiency with computers and using school software programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • Extensive sales and marketing experience are required.
  • Experience at an international, independent, and boarding school is a plus.
  • Administrative experience in a school setting is preferred, experience in a school admissions office is a plus.
