Director of Accounting/Controller

Smalls is seeking a Director of Accounting/Controller to lead our accounting, tax, and treasury functions. You’ll implement the accounting processes, systems & controls that will lay the groundwork for our next stage of business. We want Accounting to be a business & thought partner to the overall org as well and are looking for someone who is looking for the next step up in scope, influencer & responsibility.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is details obsessed, is biased towards action, works well despite ambiguity & is eager to grow alongside a rapidly growing company. Oh, and our ideal candidate is a hard core cat person 😻. This role will report to our SVP of Finance.

What You’ll Do:

• Be our go-to for all aspects of corporate accounting functions including but not limited to: Billing, AP/AR, Revenue, Tax, Treasury, Financial reporting & Payroll
• Manage all monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities; prepare financial statements in accordance with US GAAP
• Proactively improve our internal accounting processes; propose and implement solutions
• Lead the team through financial audits; manage external audit teams through that process
• Manage a 3rd party accounting team as needed for additional support; eventually lead, support & develop in-house team
• Manage external stakeholders to address audit, banking, compliance, reporting, insurance and tax requirements
• Work cross-functionally with other leaders at Smalls to scale and operationalize processes supporting our business growth
• Work cross functionally with other leaders to challenge and optimize our billing, accounting & finance systems as part of scaling initiatives
• Partner with Finance to create financial projections and budgets; analysis of results against budget
• Develop a comprehensive set of control processes to mitigate financial risk and ensure accuracy of company records

• You have experience with and strong understanding of US GAAP
• You're very familiar with audits or have lead one. Huge plus!
