Director of Accounting

Position Title: Director of Accounting

Reports To: Corporate Controller

Location: Nashville, TN

Position Summary: The Director of Accounting will oversee the accounting department, manage financial reporting, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. A significant part of this role involves managing revenue accounting and ensuring adherence to ASC 606 guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of revenue recognition principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

• Lead and manage the accounting team, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.
• Establish and maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with other departments to support overall company goals and objectives.

Revenue Accounting:

• Oversee all aspects of revenue accounting, ensuring accurate and timely recognition of revenue in compliance with ASC 606.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for revenue recognition.
• Review and analyze customer contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment.
• Ensure the integrity of revenue-related financial data and reporting.

Financial Reporting:

• Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP.
• Coordinate the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and providing necessary documentation.
• Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders as needed.

Compliance and Regulatory:

• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards, including ASC 606.
• Stay current with changes in accounting standards and regulations, and assess their impact on the company's financial practices.
• Develop and implement strategies to manage financial risk and ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.

Operational Efficiency:

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
• Utilize accounting software and tools to streamline financial processes and reporting.
• Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

Strategic Planning:

• Provide financial insights and support to strategic decision-making processes.
• Assist in the development of long-term financial plans and budgets.
• Support mergers and acquisitions activities, including due diligence and integration of financial systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
• Experience with financial reporting and compliance in a publicly traded company is preferred.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior management, auditors, and external stakeholders.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
