Director of Academic Advising for Declared Majors

Oversees the University's academic advising functions and includes departmental or unit direction, goals, strategies, and polices. Ensures student records and data integrity, advises and assists senior administrators, supervises staff and human resource actions, oversees departmental workflow and communications, and prepares budget.

Office of the Dean-Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences

The Director of Academic Advising for Declared Majors serves as a key staff leader within the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and College of General Studies. The director is responsible for overseeing staff academic advising in the School’s departments and programs and collaborating with faculty advisors to promote student retention and successful degree completion. The director works closely with the senior director for academic operations and administration, department chairs and program directors, directors of undergraduate studies, and leadership in the undergraduate dean’s office. Collaborates with the director of the Dietrich Academic Advising Center (which serves undeclared students) on the major declaration process and transition to major advising; advisor training and mentoring; assessment of advising; and the use of data/research to monitor student progress and identify barriers to student success. Develops collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff in academic and non-academic units throughout campus.

Essential Functions

Incumbent must be capable of oral and written communication, be able to talk on the telephone, be able to use a computer and keyboard, and be able to use video communication technology (Zoom, Teams, etc.).

Physical Effort

While the position is primarily sedentary, the employee will need to attend meetings at various locations across campus.
