Job Summary

Provides strategic direction and oversight to meet Federal, State, and Local governmental regulations required to obtain licenses that allow for the sale of pharmaceuticals, liquor, tobacco, food, and other regulated products. Also responsible for obtaining licenses for new Company initiatives and reporting

officer changes or other business changes. Coordinates with Pharmacy and Retail Operations, Compliance Officers, Pharmacy Affairs, and Legal Departments for all business units as well as Boards of Pharmacy and other licensing agencies to ensure all requirements are met and applications are submitted on a timely basis to reduce risk to the organization. Identifies and implements improvements to processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains up to date compliance expertise, skills and competency regarding evolving laws, regulations, guidance, and directives impacting Walgreens licensing requirements.
  • Regularly engage with licensing agencies to ensure current requirements are met.
  • Identify requirements to meet new company initiatives and determine the most effective plan for meeting business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with Pharmacy and Retail Operations, Compliance Officers, Pharmacy Affairs, and Legal Departments for all business units, as well as Boards of Pharmacy and other licensing agencies, to ensure all requirements are met and applications are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Responds to and resolves questions and concerns from cross-functional stakeholders related to licensing requirements.
  • Leads the team to deliver requirements. Provides coaching, developing, and training to team members.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least six (6) years’ experience working with legal documents and processes OR Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies and at least seven (7) years’ experience with legal documents or processes OR High School/GED + at least nine (9) years’ experience working with legal documents and processes.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies or other organizations in a legal capacity.
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience planning and leading strategic change efforts through effective communication and persuasion.
  • Experience diagnosing legal requirements and presenting solutions and alternatives with other senior leaders.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in licensing, or a corporate law department or law firm.
  • Experience using time management skills to balance strategic work with team management to ensure all employee matters are managed within budget and aligned to priorities of the business.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of health care compliance regulations.
  • Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
  • Experience analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical and liquor regulations (e.g. DEA, State BOPs, State and Local Liquor Regulations, etc.)
  • Experience in a hospital, healthcare, and/or compliance setting.
