Director, Institutional Research & University Assessment

The Director leads the collection, analysis, and dissemination of university data and organizes assessment results for the university strategic plan. The director serves as the central source for institutional data and reporting requests from the university, produces regular reports for internal and external constituents, devises research strategies to explore proposed initiatives. In addition, the director works with administrators to refine meaningful benchmarks and assessment tools to document progress toward university strategic goals. Organizes reporting of assessment results through the university strategic plan rubric.

Salary:$85,000-$119,000 Annually

Essential Functions:

  • This position has supervisor authority over the Institutional Data Coordinator
  • Responsible for collecting, organizing, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting internal data
  • Develops procedural standards for consistency in gathering and maintaining institutional data
  • Accurately organizes and archives data for the university; ensures that information is available, accurate, and updated in a timely manner
  • Produces university Fact Book twice each year
  • Coordinates submission of SUNY reports, IPEDS, MSCHE, HEDS, and other reports as directed
  • Assists in prioritizing and completion of external market surveys such as U.S. News and World Report
  • Performs external marketing surveys and analysis, including examination of higher education institutions, as needed to support university initiatives
  • Instructs and/or assists administrators, faculty and staff in areas of research design methodology, instrument administration and/or construction, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Assists administrators in refining quantitative benchmarks for measuring success towards university goals and objectives
  • Assists administrator in developing and implementing assessment tools
  • Assists in tracking and reporting university assessment results
  • Is a member of Executive Council

  • Works as a collaborative team member contributing effectively to team projects
  • Supports decision-making through providing relevant data and analysis
  • Responsive to requests from university constituents, effectively prioritizing requests, and completing in a timely manner
  • Supports and assists in creating intersections for faculty, staff and students that will assist in transforming people's lives
  • Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students
  • Maintains a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence and respect for a wide range of identities and experiences, therefore welcoming and supporting all faculty, staff and students and expanding access to the AU experience
  • Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment
  • Participates in all required assigned training, including safety training and will comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Contributes to the overall success of the University by performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications-Education & Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Master's degree in an appropriate academic discipline with an emphasis on quantitative research methods and statistics
  • Experience conducting assessment, developing benchmarks and metrics, developing assessment tools
  • At least five years experience in higher education
  • Relevant experience should include: data collection, analysis and interpretation, data base management
  • Knowledge of Banner required; knowledge of Slate, Navigate, DegreeWorks a plus

Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals.
