What you will be doing

The Director, Outbound Transportation will be responsible in the leading of continuous improvement in outbound transportation operations while partnering with the supply chain network, retail, suppliers, and carriers. This role will focus on development of consistent KPIs to measure operations, defining and implementing best practices, outbound system strategy and support, routing optimization, and management of our 3PL outbound partners. Ideal candidates will have lead Transportation teams at Albertsons’ DCs and are experts in outbound operations and systems.

The position will be based in Boise, ID, or Corporate location based on applicant’s home location.

Main responsibilities

  • Execute Logistics’ strategic and tactical plan for improving key transportation and outbound KPIs.
  • Implement effective mentoring and developmental processes in conjunction with DC general manager to improve bench strength and prepare individuals for the next level of leadership.
  • Coordinate the implementation of industry best practices across divisional transportation and outbound operations and systems.
  • Leverage technology and assist in managing optimal usage of transportation management systems including TMS, YMS, and telematics critical to outbound operations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize outbound transportation service routing to minimize cost and improve service
  • Lead the development of network wide backhaul programs to reduce empty miles and improve fleet utilization

The salary range is $118,100 to $165,380 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation Pay (accrued based on hours worked) or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.

What we are searching for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation or Supply Chain preferred
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in Albertsons Distribution Center Transportation leadership role
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in transportation/private fleet management and retail outbound operations
  • Lean six sigma experience preferred
  • Expertise in Albertsons transportation systems and Microsoft products
  • Travel up to 50%
