Director, Community Based Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for providing leadership and direction to agency programs, with a focus on facilitating their growth and optimizing the quality of services offered to families. Strategic collaboration with like-minded agencies to form alliances is a key component of this position, as is promoting the vision of the Leadership Board and Executive Director. Working closely with middle management staff, the incumbent will develop effective strategic goals annually. Additionally, the position will oversee the administration, implementation, and evaluation of community-based services. These services include but are not limited to the Kids Care Plus childcare program, The Sheppard Training Institute, the Family Education department, the 24-hour call line, and the Community Engagement department.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct assigned staff and volunteers to ensure that programs function optimally and with full budgetary accountability.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, recruit, interview, and select highly qualified program staff; and ensure that all program staff receive orientation and training according to agency standards.
  • Identify and implement new program initiatives in cooperation with managers and Assistant Directors.
  • Lead program staff in promoting the vision of the Leadership Board and Executive Director by developing long-term goals and objectives for successful program outcomes.
  • Develop an annual budget and operating plan for assigned programs; monitor and approve all program expenditures; work closely with the finance team to ensure budget management.
  • Develop annual outreach plan for engaging participants and community organizations.
  • Create, maintain, and strengthen working relationships with all levels of government, funding sources, and media.
  • Serve as a member of a grant review team to aid in selecting grant opportunities and drafting proposals.
  • Keep abreast of the latest child abuse trends and statistics, research, and strategies and to help guide staff in their professional development.
  • Work closely with supporting staff to ensure that programs maintain fidelity and accreditation.
  • Select, develop, and maintain a highly qualified, motivated, and diverse professional staff. Encourage teamwork, personal initiative, and accountability.
  • Develop a strong public awareness and understanding of The Family Tree and its mission by serving as a spokesperson and engaging other staff and Board members in this process.
  • Coordinate communication with funders as outlined in private and public funding agreements; and oversees the reporting and filing.
  • Assist in the oversight of the financial administration, budgetary process, audit procedures, and cash flow of each program.
  • Develop and implement effective and innovative methods to raise ongoing funds from diverse sources. Actively engage in acquiring and maintaining funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Implement program evaluation activities to improve program effectiveness and efficiency; regularly monitor activities, identify risks, and take appropriate action to control them.
  • Serve as program administrator for Penelope case management database.
  • Monitor program databases and records to ensure compliance.
  • Meet with direct reports regularly to provide direction, input, and feedback on program activities.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in management in a human services or non-profit agency.
  • Experience with diverse funding strategies.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, preferably experience in grant writing.
  • Master’s degree in human service or behavioral health field required
