Overview

This position oversees the day-to-day Zonal operations of the Workers Compensation line of business including but not limited to Voluntary and Assigned Risk business. This position requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills, interpretation of rules and statutes, ability to make timely and effective decisions and to develop and take appropriate corrective actions. The Director is responsible for all line of business metrics within their zone including quality results, operational metrics, data quality, SOX compliance, and fines/penalties/interest. The Director assists the Zonal VP of Claims in the development and execution of improvement plans for Zone while ensuring that operations are conducted in a timely, efficient, and compliant manner with an adequate system of internal key controls in place. The Director serves as a technical SME, monitors Claim metrics and manages loss costs. The Director provides career development to all staff levels to support organization succession planning and is responsible for compliance risk (penalty & interest) mitigation strategies.

This position reports directly to the Zonal VP of Claims and indirectly to the AVP of Claims Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing daily activities to ensure desired technical, operational, and regulatory outcomes
  • In partnership with Branch Directors, develop action plans to improve Claims quality, technical outcomes, office production and to other Organizational/Business goals
  • Conduct regular assessments on the overall ‘health’ of the Zone and identify improvement opportunities
  • Work with senior managers to implement long-term strategic plans
  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders to inform/involve them when appropriate on various project related or improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in Claims and a working knowledge of WC claims
  • Demonstrated leadership to interact collaboratively and work effectively with a multi-functional team and throughout the organization; fosters an environment of shared responsibility and accountability
  • Strong communication, data analytics and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work extended hours when occasions demand
  • Ability to travel, nationally, up to 30% of the time
  • Bachelor’s degree
