Overview of the Digital Artist Role

As part of the Williams Sonoma creative team, you will bring your skills and expertise to find retouching solutions that are right for the brand image. You’ll be responsible for making various adjustments to a large volume of supplied images – stripping in backgrounds, adding drop shadows, adjusting tone and color, etc. – to conform to the established look and maintaining the visual integrity of our website to provide a cohesive online shopping experience for our customer. Your organization skills and attention to detail will combine to create compelling imagery and enhance the overall website aesthetic.

This role is based in our Richmond, CA photo studio.

Responsibilities


  • Using Adobe Photoshop and Bridge, perform complex image work to match product samples for color accuracy, balance mood and lighting in large sets of images shot by multiple teams in different settings and occasionally combine multiple exposures and replace large environments/backgrounds.
  • Compensate for damaged or incorrect product samples (ie: removing scratches and dents, cloning missing hardware, adjusting/swapping fabric colors by matching swatches, etc.).
  • Reference provided Brand Style Guides to ensure background colors, lighting and overall image quality are consistent.
  • Replace backgrounds, add realistic drop shadows and adjust color as needed to ensure consistent image quality in images supplied by third parties.
  • Manage and maintain excellent file/folder structure and workflow practices. Adhere to established naming conventions, color space, crop, file size and other technical specifications.
  • Production of consistent, quality results in a timely manner. Maintain a high volume of image output on a daily basis within rigorous deadlines.
  • Collaborate daily with Senior Digital Retoucher and Project Managers on project status. Field daily requests to review and revise images to enforce brand image quality standards.
  • Transport materials and equipment and lift, move, and carry objects up to 50 pounds on a limited basis.


Criteria


  • Expert with Photoshop on MacOS.
  • Highly proficient in all aspects of digital image quality control and output. File size, light, color balance, and retouching.
  • 2+ years experience of high volume retouching in retouching studio or in-house creative department focusing on products or luxury goods required.
  • Understanding of RGB and CMYK workflows and color management, catalog pre-press experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with all studio tools, lighting, technical software and systems.
  • Bachelors Degree in photography, graphic design, fine arts or related field preferred; portfolio with before-after examples.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables concurrently.
  • Ability to perform work full-time, onsite in the Richmond office pending state, local, and Company return-to-work guidance during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $75,000-85,000/year. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
