This is a full-time, remote position that supports a one-year project. We anticipate the role will last the duration of the project.
Responsibilities
Ensure that content aligns with art style guides and meets Curriculum requirements, technical requirements, and DEI guidelines
Coordinate with Art, Development, and Curriculum Teams to strategize ways to update and create art for existing and new activities and supporting collateral content
Design characters, objects, backgrounds, storyboards, etc., for a wide variety of content, such as digital activities, storybooks, and animation
Create new character poses and scenes, based on existing character turnarounds, expression sheets, prop sheets, etc.
Continuously champion, promote, and advance diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence at
Collaborate on and contribute to organizational DEI efforts and goals.
Qualifications
BFA/BA degree in illustration/art-related field or similar work experience
3+ years of direct experience in creating digital art content
An understanding, love, and passion for children’s content
Understanding of anatomy, story, composition, perspective, color theory, and production pipelines for a variety of projects
Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, and using a Wacom Cintiq or similar drawing tablet
Willingness and drive to learn new software and techniques based on needs for artwork
Collaborative teammate willing to accept feedback and work with others to develop the highest quality content for children
Successfully complete Design Test to assess skills and ability to match Waterford's in-house art style for activities
Proven track record in balancing multiple projects at a time while maintaining sharp attention to detail and working with cross-functional teams
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Meticulous and strong organizational skills
Preferred
Proficient in Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, and other Creative Suite applications
Experience with graphic and visual design
Experience developing content for a young audience and up to date with the latest children’s illustration trends
Familiarity with Google Suite, Slack, Jira, and Confluence
Submission/Portfolio Requirements
A portfolio demonstrating relevant artistic skills is required. Portfolios must include the following, or they will not be considered: character designs, environments, and a range of art styles. The following is also preferred: storyboards, storytelling, and character design. Only online artwork submissions (e.g., website, blog, or online album) will be accepted. Qualified prospects must be willing to complete a design test if requested to do so.

Waterford.org team members are located across the United States and primarily work from home. We anticipate paying between $60,000 - 70,000 for this full time position based on the education, experience and skill level of the individual we hire. In addition to your base salary Waterford has an annual bonus program.
