The Felician Sisters of North America is hiring a full-time, Dietary Supervisor who will be responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the Dietary department at our Chicago convent home/eldercare facility. Our Chicago convent is located on the north side, near Lincolnwood and North Park neighborhoods.

The Dietary Supervisor is also responsible for cooking and providing healthy, nutritious, attractive meals for residents in a safe working environment. This leadership role is also responsible for fiscal operations of the Dietary department such as budgeting, ordering, planning, and accounting. This role supports manages, and mentors other cooks and dietary aides and assists with hiring and training dietary personnel.

Essential Functions

  • The Dietary Supervisor commits to the Felician Sisters employee mission statement and work culture that promotes the dignity of each resident by caring for the needs of the whole person and by providing a safe, functional, and attractive home environment.
  • Thrives in a collaborative, team-based environment that fulfills supervisor responsibilities while serving as a full-time Cook and assisting Dietary Aides as needed.
  • Assists in planning regular and special diets. Oversees menu and meal preparation for special celebrations.
  • Incorporates new ideas, recipes, and foods into menus regularly to ensure variety while complying with the dietary requirements of each resident. Plans menus based on resident preferences, prescribed diet plans, and seasonal availability of food.
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the staffing schedule for the dietary team. Provides coaching and constructive feedback for dietary staff as needed using appropriate documentation and working with managers from health services and facilities with open communication.
  • Assists with hiring new dietary personnel and orients, trains, and evaluates job performance of all dietary staff.
  • Leads the training of dietary staff in proper nutrition, equipment usage, food preparation standards, sanitation standards, cleaning techniques, and other relevant dietary topics.
  • Follows infection control practices for the safety of residents, employees, and self.
  • Ensures that all storage rooms, food preparation areas, and dining rooms are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Purchases food and monitors inventory, supplies, and equipment while working within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain necessary personnel, cost, menu, monthly food inventories, and other essential records which all lead to a person-centered care experience for residents.

Education And Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; formal education or training in the culinary arts of food services preferred.
  • ServSafe or similar food certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in food services required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of cook experience required.
  • Experience in eldercare/long-term care, healthcare, or institutional setting is preferred.
