Job Title: Diagnostician, Special Education Reports To: Director of Special Education, Supervisor(s) for Appraisal Services and Building Principal of the campus to which he/she is assigned Classification: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 195 Salary: See Compensation Plan for Administrative/Professional Pay Plan, Pay Grade 104 Contract: Probationary/Term Date Revised: 11/15/2023 Primary Purpose: Implement the special education assessment process through evaluation of the cognitive processes, the educational levels, learning styles and program needs of students referred for special education services. Facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings by providing leadership throughout the ARD process, interpreting assessment data, assisting with the development of the Individual Education Plan for students according to district, state and federal guidelines. Facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings by providing leadership throughout the ARD process, interpreting assessment data, assisting with the development of the Individual Education Plan for students according to district, state and federal guidelines. Qualifications/Skills: Education/Certification:
- Master's degree in educational assessment.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.
- Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate.
- Knowledge of human development, second language acquisition and learning.
- Knowledge of education of special education and the ARD process.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Three years of teaching experience, preferably as a special education teacher.
Responsibilities: Assessment:
- Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual and educational functioning of referred students and to determine if students meet criteria for specified conditions according to federal and state regulations.
- Score and interpret test data.
- Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student's cumulative folder, classroom(s), principal, support staff, parents and outside resource people.
- Complete and/or coordinate Full Individual Evaluation Reports in accordance with federal and state regulations and district policy.
- Plan and staff prior to Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings as appropriate.
- Conduct Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings in compliance with federal and state regulations and district policy.
- Ensure that all ARD documents are archived, copied and distributed to the appropriate ARD members.
- Provide campus based staff development training to assist school personnel in identification and understanding of students with disabilities.
- Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of IEPs.
- Consult with parents concerning the interpretation of assessment data and the educational needs of their student.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data and test inventories.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement and planning for special education services.
- Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
- Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Maintain positive and effective relationships with supervisors and other district staff.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents.
- Uphold district confidentiality procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
