Development Manager

The development manager reports to the Senior Director of Development and handles an array of key responsibilities, including identifying and cultivating new foundation prospects as well as supporting the build out of a major donor program. The manager works closely with colleagues across the organization, including those who produce editorial coverage and professional development content as well as our controller. Additionally, the development manager serves as the day-to-day lead for donor communications and metrics, as well as CRM system management.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the build out of the Chronicle’s major gifts program, helping to identify and engage strong prospects.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new foundation prospects aligned with the Chronicle’s mission and priorities.
  • Work closely with the senior director of development and other team members to define and articulate funding priorities and seek funding from potential supporters.
  • Serve as lead in working with our communications consultant and other relevant staff members to develop regular updates for donors about the Chronicle’s impact and other components of donor collateral that include measures of success.
  • Serve as development owner in keeping CRM system updated, coordinating with our technology lead to maximize and streamline system utility.
  • Compose and submit reports required by foundation and individual supporters.
  • Collaborate with the senior director of development and other colleagues to develop and implement strategies that maximize the Chronicle’s web presence for fundraising success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • 3-5 years of development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proven track record of securing six-figure level grants and gifts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be a strong writer who is detail oriented, resourceful, and able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong budgeting skills
  • High degree of organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as be an effective team member.
  • Problem-solving mindset with understanding of how to work with multiple departments across an organization to advance a common goal.
  • Experience with remote work environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of issues and trends within the nonprofit sector preferred.
  • High degree of skill in using programs from MS Office Suite and Google Office Suite required.
  • Experience with CRMs preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% time.

Salary and Benefits:

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000-$85,000 annually
