Development Director

Position: Hyde Square Task Force seeks asystems-minded, strategic, and organized DevelopmentDirector to strengthen our annual fundraising andcommunications efforts. This individual will support the ExecutiveDirector to secure $3.5 million in grants and donations. TheDevelopment Director will manage a staff of five full and part-timeemployees as well as a capital campaign consultant. This positionis a full-time role and is based in Boston’s LatinQuarter.

Job Summary: While Hyde Square Task Force hassuccessfully grown our organization and funding over the past 10years, the Development Director will position usfor future growth by introducing stronger administration and staffmanagement to our fundraising and communications efforts. Giventhis focus, the Development Director will spend much of their firstyear strengthening our fundraising and communications teamdynamics, systems, and protocols. In year two and beyond, theDevelopment Director will take on more external relationships andinnovation-related work. In year one, the Development Director willlead:

Fundraising Goal Setting and ProgressMonitoring

  • Partner with the Executive Director and Board ofDirectors to create a data-informed process to set ambitious butachievable fundraising goals in the $3-5 millionrange
  • Institute a pipeline process to monitor and report onfundraising progress throughout the year; making data-informeddecisions that prioritize ongoing and new opportunities
  • Create and implement protocols to maximize current fundraisingdatabase and/or propose adoption of new database system to trackdonor activity and progress to goals
  • Standardize key fundraising processes such as gift processing,donor acknowledgement, etc.

Team Leadership and Cultivation

  • Coach a full-time Grants Manager who oversees onepart-time and one contract grant writer and spearheads materialcreation for over 60 grants annually
  • Supervise new Communications Managerto strategically define their priorities and execute high qualitydigital media, event production, and volunteer engagementworkstreams
  • Manage Development and CommunicationsCoordinator to execute all ongoing administrative tasks and supportthe grants and communications teams as needed

Capital Campaign Implementation

  • Partner with capital campaignconsultants to develop materials related to a $5-10 million capitalcampaign that will fund the revitalization of two adjoiningproperties owned by HSTF
  • Ensure capital campaign consultanthas access to all critical data and resources
  • Manage coordination between capitalcampaign and annual fundraising efforts to ensure donors arestewarded in a holistic way that supports the long-term health ofHSTF

Fundraising Event Execution

  • Plan and execute HSTF’s annualBreakfast, which raises $150,000 from individual and corporatesponsors
  • Partner with the Executive Directorto develop materials and solicit sponsors to support the event
  • Leverage the communications teammembers to manage the venue, vendors, and other key logistics

Board Reporting and Engagement

  • Collaborate with the ExecutiveDirector to report fundraising progress and needs to the HSTFboard
  • Facilitate conversations with theboard’s Resource and Development Committee, including agendadevelopment, meeting facilitation, and follow up
  • Engage board members in the annualbreakfast and other opportunities as they arise

Organizational Leadership

  • Participate in ongoing HSTFleadership team meetings
  • Ensure strong communication betweenthe development department and other HSTF departments

Qualifications/Experience

  • A minimum of five to seven years of diversified funddevelopment experience
  • At least two years of staff management experience
  • Demonstrated fundraising success with a track record of meetingor exceeding annual targets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with implementing new and/or leveraging existingfundraising databases (HSTF currently uses Bloomerang)
  • Some digital media, marketing, and/or events experiencepreferred
  • Adaptable, flexible, and willing togrow with the needs of the organization
  • Familiarity/experience supporting and expanding aculture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • A passion and commitment to HSTF’s mission, vision, andvalues
  • Bachelor’s degree required
