The Opportunity
The Development Associate will play a key role in supporting the Growth Team in driving resources to grow North America Business Unit programs. They will work closely with the Growth Directors to source and cultivate new opportunities of federal, philanthropic, and corporate funders. They will support in the process of closing contracts with prospective funders to ensure a smooth hand off to the North America program teams for implementation. They will be an essential player in driving opportunities into wins across the Business Development team from start to finish.
Essential Functions
Carry out assigned tasks to support program or departmental operations. Beginning to take on more independent work and shows initiative in problem-solving
Support the Growth (Business Development) team, and North America Business Unit to refine and execute business development strategies for our North America Business Unit programs
Proactively identify and build relationships, both through cold and warm outreach, with existing and prospective institutional philanthropy, state & federal government funders, and corporate partners with the support of the Business Development team
Work with the broader Business Development team to build out and manage a North America Business Unit opportunity and relationship database; contribute to management of internal databases, conducting regular analysis of our performance and developing insights from this information to inform strategy and implementation
Support the Business Development team to identify potential funding opportunities, particularly for our work to build more equitable and responsible climate and health economies
Support on the follow up on priority opportunities, including working with a team or independently to write proposals, including aggregating, sorting and tailoring existing knowledge from across the company and writing new content to respond to specific opportunity needs
Manager contract responsibilities by ensuring timely and transparent processes are met
Prepare the Business Development team for meetings with prospective funders
Support relationship managers to coordinate with program teams to incorporate funders into program activities and events
Coordinate with Business Development team members to identify and support the application of speaking opportunities and coordinating meetings and other activities around these speaking engagements
Requirements
3+ years experience in US Domestic economic or community development, innovation, workforce, health & wellness, and/or climate/cleantech/energy industry
Knowledge of the US domestic funding landscape, including experience with corporate CSR functions, national and regional economic development agencies, and philanthropic funders
Impact driven and action / solution-oriented
People-oriented and able to easily establish and follow up with new relationships
Collaborative - strong team player, able to work with effectively with colleagues across different departments
Disciplined in working independently
