General Responsibilities:
The Development Associate is an integral part of the Development and Communications Department of JASA, a fast-paced, team-oriented department that is a vital part of a large agency. The position is the foundation of work within the department, and the candidate’s strong skills with data, research, and writing allow the department to solicit and steward gifts. The Development Associate will have the opportunity to engage in all institutional advancement, with agency departments including Administration, Programs, and the Executive Office; as well as other agency stakeholders.

Our mission is to sustain and enrich the lives of the aging in New York so they can remain in the community, with dignity and autonomy. Every year, JASA serves more than 40,000 older adults in over 50 locations across New York City and Long Island.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implements departmental research and donor tracking activities, including but not limited to: developing lists of and researching prospective donors; preparing profiles on current and prospective donors; and tracking relationships with donors by maintaining both paper and electronic files and utilizing the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Prepares acknowledgement letters, and other written materials for active stewardship: including drafting, editing, and preparing background on each gift for the Chief Development Officer.
  • Acts as hub for gift entry, including scanning, using Raiser’s Edge database to document gifts, as well as track, analyze, and report on fundraising performance, and reconcile gifts with the finance department.
  • Coordinates backend efforts to create/order event supplies, manage client registration and transportation, and assists in planning and producing events as needed.
  • Assists in creation of direct mail pieces and coordinates mailings.
  • Assists in development of promotional materials organization-wide.
  • Oversees uploading and shipping of pieces as well as stewardship efforts through JASAGems.
  • Collaborates as appropriate with departmental and other agency staff to carry out duties.
  • Performs other related tasks as requested or assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; some higher education coursework required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge and google software (e.g. e-mail, calendars) strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Canva strongly preferred
  • Some prior familiarity with the operation of non-profit organizations
  • Must be computer literate, including ability to learn and use program-specific software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Discretion and ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion
  • Ability to complete assignments efficiently, independently set priorities, meet deadlines, and work on several projects at once
  • Must deal with staff and external parties in a professional and courteous manner
  • Knowledge of and/or commitment to geriatric care, health, human services, and/or related fields is strongly preferred.
