Designer

Entangled Publishing is seeking a designer to join our award-winning art department. Be a part of a team that is on the cutting edge of design. In this role, you will be responsible for formatting and designing hardcover jackets and paperback covers for print with the final layout in Indesign. The designer will work closely with the art director and assistant art director in the preparation and routing mechanicals for print from design to completion. This position will also coordinate with the editorial and production departments in order to facilitate this process. This is a fully remote, part-time work-from-home position for 20 hours a week. The Role:

• Design hardcover jackets and paperback covers for print in InDesign.
• Prepare mechanical files for production and review and correct proofs.
• Must be able to take a front cover file from photoshop and design a full mechanical layout in InDesign.
• Work closely and independently with art directors, publishers and editors on mechanical layouts from concept through approval.
• Assist with department design needs.
• Strict adherence to schedules and flexibility to respond to critiques in a timely manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively progress on projects.

Requirements:

• 1-3 years of design experience within publishing.
• A portfolio that demonstrates full mechanical jacket design.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with a strong knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
• Experience preparing files for print and digital output.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Retouching and color correcting skills.
• Strong design and typography skills.
• Strong communication, both written and verbal.
• Bonus, cover design and/or illustration skills.
