At BarkleyOKRP, the copywriter is a student of language and storytelling in all of its forms. The Design Copywriter is called upon to develop language and copy solutions that are both on-trend from a cultural perspective, and on-brand for BarkleyOKRP clients.
The ideal copywriter executes work at a high standard, and employs skill and knowledge in the craft of copywriting across multiple mediums to create work that is distinctive and memorable.
On an ongoing basis, the copywriter manages his/her own daily and long-term assignments under the leadership of Design Directors/Associate Design Directors within the column. The Writer regularly collaborates with designers to build compelling brand narratives through the work, and welcomes opportunities to collaborate with other disciplines -- including experience, innovation, video, motion, etc..
RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibits a thorough understanding of the art and science of language -- and how language is employed to connect people with ideas
Can identify a style and tone for each particular client, and write in ways that stay true to that style and tone
Is versatile in voice, and can easily transition from long and short-form copy
Develops brand language/vocabulary
Understands the specific business case and agreed-upon strategy for every project, with an appreciation for the client's business and industry
Is adept at discerning context, and can employ a particular style of writing that is appropriate for a given scenario (e.g. an Instagram post vs. an ad headline vs. a white paper summary)
Maintains an active awareness of trends, technological advances, and cultural nuances as it relates to style, language, and vernacular
Looks for opportunities to disrupt the communication landscape in service of great ideas
Has the ability to think beyond static executions to address motion, interaction, and experience
Works productively and harmoniously as a teammate with those who share responsibility on day-to-day assignments
Has a strong ability to prioritize work and manage his/her own time based on short and long-term needs.
Owns the material application of copy across multiple executions (versioning)
Under the direction of the Design Director/Associate Design Director, sees work through completion -- including quality assurance and proofing before final production
