About The Position

Millions of students nationwide lack the access to technology and the skills they need to succeed in the digital world. Since 2012, Verizon has been working to help solve this problem through a transformative program called Verizon Innovative Learning. Digital Promise collaborates with Verizon to equip middle and high school teachers and students across America with technology, access, teacher professional development, and technical support, as well as the opportunity to engage in a unique, immersive curriculum to leverage technology in their classrooms.

The Deputy Director, Student Impact is a key member of the digital equity leadership team that is responsible for driving student impact and outcomes for all Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS). The Deputy Director, Student Impact will provide overall leadership to a team of highly skilled practitioners who will work directly with district and school staff to support onboarding, coaching, implementation, professional development, and technical support. In addition, the Deputy Director will need to collaborate across the Digital Equity Team, be fully immersed in the effective use of digital technologies in learning, and have deep knowledge on an array of topics, including districts and schools, professional learning, leadership, public relations, program management, and communications. This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in a national initiative that leverages technology in support of powerful teaching and learning.

Responsibilities:

Overall

  • Ensure organizational health and cultivate a positive and inclusive workplace culture and employee experience
  • Coordinate and cohere with the Deputy Directors of Learning Design, Research, Evaluation, and Development and the Digital Equity Leadership team to present a coherent national program and implement all goals and activities for the Student Impact team
  • Build, directly manage and measure the impact of the Digital Promise Student Impact team that directly supports all district and schools with the implementation of the VILS partnership
  • Responsible for ensuring all districts and schools experience optimal student outcomes and satisfaction with student impact supports across their time as part of the VILS program
  • Map the VILS district and school journey, optimizing the district and school lifecycle from onboarding to sustainability
  • Develop listening points in the VILS journey for districts and schools (data usage, storytelling, student outcomes, etc.)
  • Foster collaboration across the Digital Promise and the Digital Equity team to support districts and schools throughout their VILS journey
  • Recognize district and school needs and proactively eliminate problems through standardized interventions for districts and schools
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Learn from best practices in industry
  • Collaborate across the Digital Equity team to evaluate all programs, identify areas for changes and updates to the VILS program and offerings, and work with the team to achieve and maintain competency in all initiative areas
  • Encourage continuous learning within the team and create a team-wide culture and understanding of Student Impact
  • Participate in networking and outreach activities
  • Support the development of updates and reports for funder
  • Represent Digital Promise and the VILS initiative in industry-group conferences, professional associations, and other public venues
  • Provide thought leadership around powerful use of emerging educational technologies
  • Engage in Digital Promise projects that promote and advance digital equity and contribute meaningfully to achieving the organization’s impact goals.


Professional Development Planning, Facilitation, and Implementation

  • Oversee a team that works collaboratively with VILS staff and school leadership teams to support the implementation of strategic plans for professional development in a school, aligned to both Verizon Innovative Learning outcomes and school goals, leveraging technology and in-school and out-of-school access
  • In collaboration with the Directors, work with school and district leadership to problem-solve escalated challenges related to the implementation of the initiative
  • Collaborate with Digital Equity team on the development and oversight of systems supporting the VILS initiative
  • Conduct multiple school visits (in-person and virtual) and virtual coaching for school and district leaders


Building Coaching Capacity

  • Provide oversight and guidance team wide to ensure in-school and in-district learning experiences build coaching capacity of full-time school and district-based teachers, coaches, and leaders


Reporting

  • Define and track key performance indicators and metrics that measure progress toward the achievement of initiative goals (increased student engagement, increased student and teacher proficiency with technology, increased academic achievement, increased interest in STEM subjects and careers)
  • Provide vital insights and reporting across the program for Verizon, Digital Promise, school leadership and others


Initiative Implementation

  • Work with staff on process development and improvement
  • Connect with colleagues in other Digital Promise initiatives to share best practices
  • Think, work, and plan sequentially toward initiative outcomes, consistently managing multiple deadlines and needs of different stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned


Education

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field


Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ public school teaching and leadership experience in schools and districts; Title I school experience preferred; experience with 1:1 programs or schools preferred
  • 5+ years in district-level senior leadership roles
  • Experience working with district leadership on school-based professional development plans; experience with school-level initiative implementation
  • Experience coaching teachers and leaders in a school and district setting required
  • Successful presentation/facilitation experience with adult learners
  • Basic understanding of school district technology environments and product deployment
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills with all school district stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining diplomacy and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to meet quantitative and qualitative objectives
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate and inspire others to consider how digital technology supports learning
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships in multiple formats (virtual, multimedia, face-to-face, etc.)
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and delegate in a fast-paced environment, and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions
  • A passion for education, a team mentality, creativity, and a positive “can-do” “yes-and” spirit

Working Conditions:

Digital Promise Global is a hybrid organization. Employees are expected to travel at least 4 times a year for in-person meetings and the annual staff retreat. Additional travel may be required based on role and responsibilities.

Compensation

We consider candidate experience and location when determining where a candidate may fall within that range. Digital Promise Global offers a competitive total rewards package including coverage of 85% of health insurance premiums for employee coverage and 75% of health insurance premiums for dependent and family coverage, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3% 401k employer contribution, 3% employer 401k match, and a flexible work environment.

The full-time salary range for the Deputy Director, Student Impact position based on geographical regions are listed below, with exact salary depending on relevant experience.

California: $170,403 - $191,704

DC Metro Area & NYC: $150,400 - $174,276

National: $139,421 - $156,848
