Deputy Director of Publications Services
Overview
Responsible for ensuring the financial success and growth of the Publications Unit through the strategic identification, creation, and execution of partnerships and business opportunities for the books and journal programs.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage strategic partnerships to grow the APHA Press business, book subscriptions, and journal subscriptions . Identify and research potential publishing relationships with other publishing programs, including co-published and co-brand partnerships. Develop and maintain distributor partner relationships for domestic and international book sales. Create and implement processes and policies to support the overall business development. Oversee the development of book and journal marketing plans, ensuring estimated sales projections and marketing plans are well informed and well researched. Negotiate contract terms with potential publishing partners and communicate with stakeholders. Conduct ongoing market research, to include conducting reader and market surveys, providing information on competitor products and business practices, and reporting on overall trends and opportunities within the publishing landscape. Work with the Director of Publications to create accurate Profit and Loss proposals for books and to drive the end-to-end sales process. The position will supervise the APHA Press Marketing Manager, Subscription and Fulfillment Manager, Web Content Editor position. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the director of publications.
Qualifications
A college degree with solid experience and at least 5-10 years of successful publishing and marketing sales experience, or 5-10 years of publishing experience with progressively responsibilities. Experience with trade shows is required. Budget experience a must. Experience managing a book or journal sales program preferred. Detail-oriented, organized, and have the ability to juggle many projects at once. TRAVEL/EXTENDED WORK/OVERTIME: Required to work offsite 10 days per year at meetings. Travel to the Annual Meeting is required with other occasional travel possible. Must be able to travel domestically, and on occasion, internationally. Must be able to travel occasionally (required). Must be able to work occasional evening and weekend work as job duties or projects require it. Must be willing to work overtime, including weekends and travel to staff APHA related meetings as needed. Must be able to travel and work occasional weekends to attend events and other off-site functions when applicable. Must be willing to work overtime as needed. Must be willing to work after business hours, including weekends and travel to staff APHA related meetings as needed. LIFTING: Requires occasional lifting and moving up to 30 lbs.
Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations. Hybrid work environment.
Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime). Number of openings: 1.
