While Raising A Village Foundation (RAVF) is currently operating in a hybrid model, candidates are expected to reside within commuting distance of our headquarters in Washington, DC and work in office two days per pay period. The Raising A Village Foundation (RAVF) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, committed to providing high-quality intervention programs and community resources to children, youth, and families in the areas of education, health and wellness, and the arts.

Raising A Village Foundation leads several key initiatives designed to create positive change for children and families in underserved communities. Each program offers support and educational opportunities that promote personal growth and civic engagement. These initiatives include: Driven 2 Succeed, At the Table, and We the Village.

The Opportunity

Raising A Village Foundation is looking for a self-motivated, mission-driven, Deputy Director. The Deputy Director plays a pivotal role in the organization's executive leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This individual will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, assisting in the development and execution of operational strategies that drive organizational transformation and growth. With a focus on operational efficiency and effectiveness, the Deputy Director will collaborate with internal teams, community partners, financial stakeholders, and human resources to enhance infrastructure and support the organization's mission.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in being a change agent with a commitment to challenging the status quo while being an internal support to RAVF Operations. This position reports directly to the Founder & CEO and works closely with all members of the RAVF team, including staff, contractors, school administrators, and community partners.


Essential Job Responsibilities

Strategic Planning Support:

  • Support Founder & CEO and board members in developing and stewarding a clear vision, strategic plan, and organization strategies that meet the moment.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and executive team to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans and metrics.
  • Assist in monitoring progress against strategic goals and adjusting plans to ensure alignment with the organization's mission.
  • Regularly assess and monitor operational, financial, and reputational risks, reporting findings to the CEO and board of directors.

Operations Oversight:

  • Support the Founder & CEO in streamlining and optimizing operational processes to improve efficiency.
  • Assist in developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the organization.
  • Evaluate the organization's existing infrastructure and devise a strategic systems roadmap to accommodate future growth and scalability.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality program initiatives while managing current and future growth.
  • Compile and deliver regular reports to the CEO, covering financial and operational performance, risk management, and strategic endeavors.
  • Utilize data analytics to guide decision-making processes and foster continuous improvement initiatives.

People Management:

  • Partner with the CEO and the leadership team to support staff development.
  • Meet with direct reports weekly to ensure the completion of work assignments and projects.
  • Work with HR to ensure that job descriptions are developed, up-to-date, and that regular performance evaluations are completed.
  • Manage staff and contractors to ensure productivity and to foster a culture of care and belonging.
  • Facilitate cross-department collaboration and strengthen internal communication processes with staff throughout the organization.
  • Support staff development and collaboration, ensuring HR practices are in place and followed.
  • Ensure organizational policies comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Financial Management:

  • Assist in the development of organizational and financial plans in collaboration with the Founder & CEO and the board of directors.
  • Monitor program and departmental budgets.
  • Provide direction and supervision to team leads and staff, ensuring appropriate resource allocation.
  • Provide regular budget statements, forecast analyses, monthly reconciliations, and oversee external accounting partners.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and maintain strong internal controls.
  • Oversee payroll processing and approval.

Board and Community Relations:

  • Collaborate with the Founder & CEO and Board of Directors to ensure organizational governance for growth and sustainability.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Support the operation and administration of the Board, recommending yearly budgets and managing resources within budget guidelines.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Business or related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience effectively managing staff and organizational resources.
  • Program sites are accessible by public transit; however personal transportation is strongly preferred.

Required

  • At least 7 years of experience in nonprofit operations, financial management, or related fields.
  • 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Experience in working with a governing body.

Project management experience, including attention to detail, ability to support multiple projects simultaneously on deadline, and navigate alignment to broader organization priorities and strategy.

  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize and complete multiple types of administrative tasks; strong attention to detail and accuracy; persistent follow-through skills.
  • High degree of personal integrity, ethics and demonstrated respect and sensitivity for cultural differences and willingness to live into RAVF’s values and ways of being.
  • Holds self accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, achieving and role modeling values.
  • Approachable, good listener, easy to talk to; builds and maintains effective relationships with colleagues, members and external partners and supporters.
  • Values diversity and different people’s perspectives, able to work cross-culturally.
  • Displays consistent excellent judgment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently and be proactive with approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office, G Suite, Adobe Pro, Excel, task management systems, etc.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
  • Willingness to travel and work nights/weekends on occasion.
  • Must pass a background check.

Compensation and Benefits

This position is a hybrid, full-time position at 40 hours per week. While RAVF is currently operating in a hybrid model, candidates are expected to work in person for two days per pay period at the Washington, D.C office space, which will be scheduled by the direct supervisor. Work hours may include occasional evenings and weekends.

The annual salary for this position is $90,000-95,000/yr, and compensation is commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical and dental benefits, 10 days of paid vacation (increases with tenure), sick leave, floating holidays, winter holiday office closure, most federal holidays, fertility support with tenure, and 401(k) retirement program. The starting salary is based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. To counter pay inequity and uphold internal parity, we use a nonnegotiable starting salary system, while benchmarking our pay to competitive markets.
