Debit Card Services Specialist

Overview: The Card Services Representative plays a critical role in providing exceptional customer service to credit union members regarding their card-related inquiries, transactions, and concerns. This role's primary focus is ensuring seamless card services, including debit and credit cards, prepaid cards, and other payment methods, while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and the credit union's policies.

Job Scope And Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all reports of unauthorized transactions and or account inquiries are responded to and resolved in a prompt and professional manner and are satisfied in accordance with State and Federal Fair Credit Rules and Regulations Z and E.
  • Act upon reports of accounts compromised, lost, or stolen, and reports of unauthorized transactions by taking the appropriate action to block, transfer, and establish a replacement account and cards, and participate in the preparation of fraud cases and charge-off recommendations.
  • Proactively manage internal and external customer expectations when communicating and responding to processing requests, instructions, inquiries, issues, voicemails, and emails to help maintain relationships.
  • Continued education in all card operations and ever-changing Visa and MasterCard operating rules and regulations.
  • Participate and share in the cross-training of card operation essential duties and responsibilities as well as special projects and assignments.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations specifically related to card products such as Federal Regulations E and Z, MasterCard regulations, and Card Act to ensure compliance.
  • Remain Current with Payment method trends in the industry, compliance procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Follows established ECCU policies and procedures and meets and adheres to audit standards.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Education/Experience: Three to five years of related work. Work-related experience should consist of Central Operations, Deposit Operations, and or Branch Operations background.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Bilingual fluency in both English and Spanish and excellent verbal and written communication skills in both languages are preferred.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to assess any given situation and bring it to a successful resolution.

Computer Skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Symitar preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: No certifications are needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work is mostly performed at a desk in a typical office environment that is generally clean and has limited exposure to conditions like dust, fumes, odors, noises, etc. Physical demands include occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing up to twenty pounds, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Have unlimited ability to use of hands to handle objects, write, type, etc. Incumbents must also see well enough to read standard text, speak well enough in person and/or on the telephone to express or exchange ideas, hear well enough to receive and/or respond to information verbally, and have the manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and/or calculator. Travel may be required to and from branches and other various locations.
