As a Database Architect, you will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and implementation of the data architecture in support of product(s) roadmap. You will architect the analytical data systems including data warehouse(s), data lake(s), and data mart(s) as best meet the product(s) requirements. You will be familiar with a variety of database technologies, concepts, methodologies, practices, and procedures and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. You will perform a variety of complicated tasks with minimal or no direct supervision. You will assist in defining system and application architecture and provide vision, problem anticipation, and problem-solving ability to the company. You will consult with the client to define needs or issues, conduct research, perform studies and surveys to obtain data, and analyze problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of a specific discipline or field of specialization.

This is a hybrid position in West Des Moines, IA.

Essential Functions

  • Keep up to date on emerging database architectures, technologies, and methodologies, and attend training classes as necessary
  • Understand and know best practices regarding the application of different data solutions such as ETL, data warehouse, data lakes, or data marts from the ground up in support of an organization initiative
  • Determine data structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, programming, reporting, analytics, and informatics; reviewing objectives with product managers and other stakeholders; and evaluating systems
  • Develop a data management and governance vision; and articulate vision to senior leadership
  • Develop reliable and scalable database solutions through designing and implementing the proposed system
  • Define database physical structure, functional capabilities, security, backup, and recovery specifications
  • Produce data models, flow diagrams, and flowcharts
  • Participate in the identification, prioritization, and development of technical initiatives and strategies
  • Work with database analysts to develop methodologies, report views, queries, analytical cubes, and table replications
  • Perform systems analysis on database, and resolve performance, capacity, and replication issues as necessary
  • Develop and maintain database standards and naming conventions


Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent related experience
  • 5+ years of database design experience with progressive responsibilities related to data architecture across products
  • Experience with relational/non-relational, high-performance databases, cloud computing, and Business Intelligence technologies
  • Demonstrate seasoned judgment to suggest approaches that optimize customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities
  • Comfortably move between highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high-level technical design to detailed technical design to implementation
  • Ability to document and communicate objectives, requirements, and designs at these different levels of abstraction to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in healthcare data preferred
  • Up to 10% local and overnight travel
  • In Colorado, this role can expect to pay $122,292 to $152,866 annually. Salary will be determined with considerations of background and experience as well as internal equity
  • Ability to work 2-3 days per week in the West Des Moines, IA office
