Aureon Consulting is actively seeking a Database Administrator for a contract to hire opening in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, Iowa area. In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the core administrative systems and associated applications, including operations. The DBA will design, implement, manage, and optimize the database systems. This role ensures the availability, performance, security, and integrity of all data.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the daily operations of administrative applications, including associated databases and servers.
  • Provide daily support for administrative systems and associated applications.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot issues with administrative modules and databases.
  • Create and monitor database automated processes such as MS SQL scripts, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Create users, groups, permissions, and space allocations in the MS SQL database.
  • Query the database and produce reports using tools such as MS Reporting Services.
  • Manage administrative system backups, maintenance, and upgrade processes.
  • Monitor database performance and processes.
  • Work with the Network team to ensure proper database performance and security.
  • Modify and document changes to the administrative databases.
  • Advise users on software aspects for office and departmental use.
  • Create and maintain integrations between the Administrative System and associated third party products.
  • Engage with users to integrate best tools and practices into the office and educational environment.
  • Participate in long and short-term technology planning.
  • Perform 24/7 on-call functions on an occasional rotating basis.


Requirements for this role:

  • An associate degree in an appropriate computer-related field or equivalent technical certifications and experience.
  • Knowledge in SQL scripting and management.
  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics GP, MS Reporting Services, Ellucian PowerCampus, and College Board PowerFaids.
  • Extensive experience with database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience with database security, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage own time, meet deadlines, set priorities, work independently and work as part of a team.
