Required Education and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in data protection compliance within a corporate environment, required
- Demonstrated expertise in North America data protection regulations (DPR's) and privacy legal frameworks, required
- Solid technical knowledge and comprehensive understanding of current data management practices, required
- Bachelors Degree, required
- CIPP-E certification or an equivalent certification in privacy or data protection, preferred
Job Description
This role is responsible to further develop and execute the data protection compliance framework in the North America region including the United States and Canada. This role involves reviewing IT systems, managing risk, negotiating contracts, and overseeing third-party risk management, all while ensuring compliance with data protection and privacy laws. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data protection compliance, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and proficiency in relevant technologies and frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Conducting comprehensive evaluations of the organization's IT systems and processes, analyzing their effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring they align with data protection and privacy requirements.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with data protection and privacy, developing risk management strategies, implementing controls, and regularly monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures.
- Engage in contract negotiations with vendors, suppliers, and other third parties to ensure that contracts include robust data protection clauses, data processing agreements, and appropriate security measures to safeguard sensitive information.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and ongoing management of risks associated with third-party vendors and service providers who have access to or process sensitive data, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and implementing necessary controls.
- Address customer inquiries, concerns, and requests related to data protection and privacy, providing guidance and support to ensure compliance, and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction while upholding legal and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance, advice, and training to employees at all levels of the organization, raising awareness of data protection and privacy best practices, delivering training programs, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement incident response plans, coordinating breach investigations, managing communication with relevant stakeholders, and taking appropriate actions to minimize the impact of data breaches and ensure timely resolution.
- Enforce and apply DHL guidelines and policies related to data protection and privacy, ensuring that all activities and processes within the organization align with these guidelines, industry standards, and legal requirements.
