Culture Coordinator - Humanities II

Summary of Position

The Culture Coordinator is responsible for providing open and consistent lines of communications with the student body, parents, and the community throughout the school year and during the summer. This individual is also responsible for supporting the success of scholars in the classroom by developing strong culture systems in concert with restorative practices.

Essential Job Functions

  • School Culture / Student Engagement
    • Implement, develop, and reinforce Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) and use data to determine next steps for all stakeholders; collaboratively ensure school wide adherence to PBIS routines. Examples include but are not limited to uniform policy, timeliness, code of conduct, etc.
    • Use appropriate restorative practices (restorative circles, conversations, mediations, etc.) to respond to student behavioral issues in a timely manner to support student development in conflict resolution
    • Serve as a point person for discipline issues in the school.
    • Assist in and lead the implementation student reward and recognition programs
    • Support school-wide policy, procedures and protocols in response to academic and behavioral needs of students,
    • Serve as a resource to teachers on issues of school culture, classroom management, discipline, and relationships with students; and help teachers and staff in holding all students to high and consistent behavioral expectations
    • Assist in and lead the implementation of behavior management tools, including facilitating staff training in behavior management policies, techniques, strategies, and related data, as well as ensuring the consistent use of chosen strategies in classrooms throughout the school
  • Safety
    • De-escalate situations that affect the overall culture and climate of the school affecting the safety of the campus
    • Collaborate with social workers and/or counselors to assess students' social emotional state for referral to social workers or crisis intervention, et al.
    • Assist and lead in supervising student entry/dismissal, locker rooms, transitions, lunchroom and hallway duty, as needed, under the direction of school leadership and/or other appropriate staff members
  • Community Engagement
    • Participate in CMO professional development and School Culture Leadership team support meetings
    • Assist in and potentially lead meetings with students' parents/guardians and teachers, and ensure that responses for infractions are fairly and consistently implemented throughout the school; communicate with parents about student challenges and progress
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Participate in and potentially lead meetings related to student support, attendance (chronic lateness and absence), behavioral issues, and home visits as necessary, to promote a sense of urgency in learning
    • Analyze data from student incidents to note patterns and trends to support and coach key stakeholders and tie these observations to specific actions, as needed with School Counselors and Social Workers
    • Ensure proper record keeping and integrity using school-wide tools and systems for reporting and documenting information, including but not limited to infractions, suspensions, student check-ins
    • Support staff use of school-wide tools and systems for reporting and documenting
  • Administrative Services
    • Participate in maintaining a welcoming and efficient front office that emphasizes organization, professionalism, courtesy, flexibility, and teamwork
    • Perform general office management tasks including maintaining student discipline records
  • Communications
    • Facilitate open and consistent lines of communication with students, families and school personnel
    • Create and proofread professional correspondence, including but not limited to suspension letters….
    • Consistently maintains confidentiality for students and families in alignment with HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Technology
    • Learn and work with school specific adopted administrative technology, including, but not limited to Google Classroom and G-Suite
Summer Responsibilities

  • Support with preparing hallways, classrooms and overall school spaces for the upcoming school year
  • Support with planning for the upcoming school year, including but not limited to summer bridge, conducting home visits, creating behavior plans
  • Additional responsibilities as needed consistent with the general nature of the position
  • Support with summer school, including but not limited to entry/exit, phone collection, proctoring, and communicating with students/families

Secondary Job Functions

  • Support with school events, including fire drills, scanning, sports, events and emergencies
  • Additional responsibilities as needed consistent with the general nature of the position

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA or BS preferably in counseling, social work, or related field
  • At least three years experience in an urban/charter school setting strongly preferred and/or working with young people a plus

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, Bilingual preferred
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Google docs, spreadsheets and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
  • Demonstrated success working with students and families
  • Responds to concerns with social and cultural sensitivity
  • Cultural competency and commitment to equity
  • Ability to work effectively in a student-centered environment
  • Effective at establishing and cultivating strong relationships to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals and objectives

Salary Information

While the majority of new hires' starting salaries shall be expected to be placed in the first half of the range(s) to allow space to grow in the job, for those who already have significant relevant experience at that level of the job, placement at the higher end of the range(s) is possible.

Pay Range

$57,500—$77,500 USD
