The Kitchn is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and experienced Culinary Producer that will bring high-performing recipes to life and make them shine. As Culinary Producer, this role will pitch, develop, style, and shoot recipes working closely with the Audience Growth and Studio teams. The ideal candidate will be skilled in recipe development, food styling, and video production for digital media and eager to teach an audience delicious and smart recipes. The Culinary Producer will work from our Manhattan studios multiple times weekly and should be comfortable on camera. This position reports to the Deputy Food Editor.


Responsibilities


  • Work closely with the Deputy Food Editor to ideate, plan, and pitch 8 to 12 recipes per month that serve both audience and traffic goals
  • Develop 6 to 8 high-performing recipes per month that will engage The Kitchn audience
  • Write service-driven headnotes that communicate the sell of the recipe and explain helpful information like techniques and tips to ensure user success in a conversational, friendly tone
  • Cross-test recipes from fellow producers, in-house staff, and freelance developers each month as needed
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Food Editor, identify, grow, and foster a diverse network of freelance contributors
  • Proactively participate in preparing for studio photoshoots: collaborate on shot lists, prepare for pre-pros, create grocery lists and run of shows, and source ingredients as needed
  • Act as lead food stylist for studio photoshoots: prep, cook, and style recipes, working in close collaboration with studio team including studio director, staff photographer, prop stylists, assistants, and/or studio producer on set. Style and teach tips and advice that support our recipes
  • Be a team player in the studio. Help to maintain a clean, efficient, and organized kitchen workspace
  • Self-shoot 3 recipes per month for social video, or as needed
  • Shoot 10 to 15 recipes and/or skills per month for SEO video, or as needed
  • Regularly pitch and cover trending recipes and food content through quick turnaround posts and videos
  • Look for cross-vertical collaboration opportunities and pitch ideas for Skills, Grocery, Kitchen, and Shopping as needed
  • Write Love Letters to your go-to, tried-and-true recipes and I Tried It’s for trending recipes as needed


Experience & Skills


  • Food-obsessed cook who loves to create recipe content that the internet loves
  • Adept at sharing food and cooking tips, techniques, and advice with an audience through visual mediums
  • 3+ years of cooking and recipe development experience
  • 2+ years food styling experience in both sweet and savory
  • 1+ year of social food video experience
  • Dialed into current food trends and seasonality
  • Solid culinary foundation
  • Ability to work fast and efficiently in the kitchen and multitask
  • Great problem solver, strong collaborator, and teamplayer
  • Strong writing skills and verbal communication skills with a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well independently and and stay on top of deadlines and shifting priorities
  • Formal culinary training is preferred, but not mandatory


Salary Range: $80,000 - 85,000 annually


The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience, location, and other job-related factors.
