Crisis Housing Advocate - Part Time 1st/2nd Shift

Pillars is looking to hire a Part-Time, Flex 1st and 2nd shift Crisis Housing Advocate for the Adult & Family Shelter.

The Crisis Housing Advocate at the Adult & Family Shelter is part of a team working to provide a safe, welcoming environment, while serving families and individuals who are experiencing homelessness. From homelessness to coming home, Pillars provides shelter, support, and solutions to address the housing needs in our community.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about serving others and is interested in sharing their skills in a fast-paced shelter setting. The Crisis Housing Advocate is responsible for daily shelter functions & for serving clients through their journey of moving into shelter, providing resources, and assisting to move out of shelter when ready; all while promoting a positive environment, encouraging self-sufficiency and being trauma informed.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND AND SHIFT DETAILS: Previous experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or poverty is great! Customer service experience is a plus! Will work 2-3 shifts per week. Some weekend availability is needed and flexibility for working either 1st or 2nd shift is a plus.

COMPENSATION: The compensation for this Part-Time position is $16.48 /hour. Benefits include a 401k retirement account and an Employee Assistance Plan.

Qualifications

Relevant experience preferred, such as:

  • A strong understanding of barriers specific to persons experiencing homelessness
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence
  • Experience working with people facing mental health struggles and/or challenges with addictions
  • Knowledge of community resources available to families who are low income and/or experiencing homelessness

This position is expected to work inclusively and respectfully within a diverse community and practice civility in the workplace. In addition, this position requires strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, demonstrated integrity, and the willingness to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. This position requires knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and related technologies.

COMPLIANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES: The Crisis Housing Advocate must act in accordance with Pillars policies and procedures, complete all required compliance training/continuing education within specified timeframe, and maintain a thorough knowledge of all internal operating procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
