The Job
San Bernardino County is recruiting for Crime Analysts who conduct research and perform analysis of crime statistics for use in planning law enforcement activities. Duties include collecting, compiling, and analyzing data; preparing reports, records and correspondence summarizing data collected; preparing charts, maps, graphs and other visual presentations; attending briefings; making oral and written presentations; monitoring trends, media, and critical events that may impact our area of responsibility and provide support for Field Operations.
A current vacancy exists in the Sheriff's Department. The list may also be used to fill positions in the Probation department, as needed.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Availability: This department is a "24/7" operation. Applicants must be available for all shifts, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. The incumbents will be required to work rotating, night, weekend, day, on-call, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends. Travel: Travel throughout the county is required; employees may be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. Minimum Requirements
MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS
Option 1:
Experience
Nine (9) months of full-time equivalent work experience in which the primary duty was performing crime or intelligence analysis.
Education Associate's degree or Certificate in crime and intelligence analysis - OR -Bachelor’s degree in crime and intelligence analysis, criminal justice, geographic information sciences, public administration, behavioral science, statistics, research methodology, or closely related field.
Option 2:
Experience
Two (2) years of full-time equivalent work experience within a law enforcement, public safety, or criminal justice agency.
Education Certificate, associate's, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited program of study in crime and intelligence analysis.
Substitution
A bachelor's degree in crime and intelligence analysis, criminal justice, geographic information sciences, public administration, behavioral science, statistics, research methodology, or a closely related field may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience in Option 2.
Internship exception:
Applications will be accepted from candidates who have completed all required coursework for the certificate or degree in crime and intelligence analysis but have not yet received it pending completion of internship.
Coursework accreditation:
All qualifying coursework, certificates or degrees used to qualify or as a substitutionmust be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Desired Qualifications
Examination: There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire. It is to your advantage to provide as much relevant and detailed work experience as possible, as resumes will not be reviewed in lieu of the application materials.
The most highly qualified candidates, based on the results of the evaluation, may be referred to a selection interview.
