Responsibilities

Credit Review and Recommendation

- Perform independent review and analysis of credit risks associated with borrowers, asset managers, investors in investment funds, deal structure, documentation, applicable terms and conditions including appropriate financial or non-financial covenants for fund finance transactions based on sufficient knowledge and experience in the fund finance market.

- Discuss and review covenants and overall assessments with reviewers and establish appropriate rationale to accept them.

- Assess both qualitative and quantitative factors that determines potential credit risk and share with senior managers through the identification and monitoring of exposure to borrowers, investment managers, LP investors, markets, and counterparties.

- Utilize automated and manual analytical tools and techniques and perform detailed credit analysis.

- Prepare comprehensive credit opinion memos for decision makers based on the clear credit analysis.

- Engage with members in the first line to enhance efficient credit process through direct and open communication with them both before and after receiving credit documents.

- Review First Line Credit applications and provide professional advice and guidance to the front office with clear, consistent and concise rationale in a logical and convincing way.

- Work closely with other credit officers (occasionally involving credit officers outside of New York including Tokyo) to assess creditworthiness of proposed fund finance transactions in accordance with the bank's credit policies and procedures.

Reporting and Monitoring

- Provide necessary reports with the management and Tokyo Head Office (if required), cooperating with his/her managers.

- Report approval activities to the management and Tokyo Head Office in a timely manner.

- Conduct ongoing credit monitoring including but not limited to annual or periodical credit rating review reports of the borrowers prepared by the first line of defense.

- Help maintain the overall credit quality of the region's loan portfolio by proactively identifying the impact of current economic and market trends on the portfolio.

• Credit Administration

- Process and review credit documents such as internal rating and credit applications/reports prepared by the first line for his/her reviewers and approver.

- Make reasonable suggestions and recommendations to improve administrative processes to maximize the efficiency.

- Arrange internal workshop(s) to share additional knowledge of the fund finance industry to CSOA, Tokyo Head Office, and the bank.

- Motivate and train other credit officers to enhance credit review capability and expertise in CSOA.

- Respond to requests, inquiries and requirements by internal/external auditors and regulators.

- Review and submit regular reporting items to Tokyo Head Office.

- Undertake any other ad hoc duties related to CSOA's operations as required.

Skills & Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree.

Experience: 6-8 years of relevant experience. (Minimum of 2-4 years of Credit Experience.)

- General finance and credit assessment knowledge - any experience in the fund finance industry in the front, middle, or back office in financial institutions or lenders will be well considered but not absolutely necessary.

- Basic job experience in financial institutions in business lines such as but not limited to: corporate finance, structured finance, FX, derivatives, deposit, and any other related financial services/products.

- Previous experience reviewing credit documents giving appropriate advice to the first line.

- Experience writing credit opinion writeups which are clear, concise, consistent, complete, logical and relevant for decision makers preferred.

- Have practical knowledge of financial documents and are able to evaluate the contents of the legal documents.

- Knowledge of institutional investors including insurance companies, pension plans, endowments/foundations or sovereign wealth funds is a plus.

- Knowledge of financial Industry regulations applicable to the role.

- Ability to communicate effectively and accurately in writing or verbally with colleagues and managers.

- Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities in a multitask environment and meet deadlines.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

- Flexible to work beyond regular office hours at times based on business needs.


The typical base pay range for this role is between $95K - $105K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location.
