Summary
Job Description
The Eighth Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for Court Reporter openings. The position will include travel within the Eighth Judicial District, and may be assigned to work with any Judicial Officer as needed. Compensation includes base salary plus transcript income and State of Iowa benefit package. Starting salary dependent upon relevant courtroom experience.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and graduation from a school of court reporting.
Must be certified by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters within 12 months of employment, and certification must be maintained as a condition of employment. Certification demonstrates proficiency based on the standard of the National Court Reporters Association for the earned designation of Registered Professional Reporter or the National Verbatim Reporters Association for the earned designation of Certified Verbatim Reporter.
Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and/or verbatim recording equipment.
Travel required.

- Jefferson County, primarily assigned to Chief District Court Judge Gookin
- Appanoose County, primarily assigned to District Court Judge Milani
- Three rover positions, may serve Appanoose, Davis, Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, North Lee, South Lee, Louisa, Mahaska, Monroe, Poweshiek, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington counties (domicile to be determined depending on candidate selected)
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Captures court testimony and proceedings with stenography machine.
- Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request.
- Prepares transcripts, performs general office work.
- Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings.
- Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee.
- Electronic document filing required in all counites within District 8.
- May be required to work for any Judicial Officer in the 8th District per operational needs.
