Corporate Counsel
My client, a well-known company in the plastics manufacturing space, is looking to grow their legal team! As my client's EHS Counsel (Environmental, Health, and Safety Counsel), you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, promoting workplace safety, and advising on related legal matters. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that mitigate risk and uphold our commitment to environmental stewardship and employee well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stay abreast of federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations. Interpret laws and advise management on compliance requirements.
- Develop, review, and update company policies and procedures related to environmental protection, occupational health, and workplace safety.
- Assess potential environmental, health, and safety risks associated with company operations. Develop risk management strategies and ensure effective implementation.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on state and federal environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act.
- Consistently interacting with TCEQ and/or EPA.
- Manage or support litigation and investigations related to environmental, health, and safety matters. Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.
- Conduct or oversee environmental impact assessments for company projects. Advise on mitigation measures and regulatory compliance.
- Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to management, operations, and other departments on EHS matters. Participate in cross-functional teams to address related issues.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and disclosures related to environmental, health, and safety performance.
- Monitor and evaluate emerging environmental, health, and safety issues and trends. Recommend proactive strategies and adjustments to policies and practices as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active state bar membership in good standing.
- 3+ years of experience practicing law with a focus on environmental, health, and safety compliance, preferably in a corporate or regulatory setting.
- Exposure to TCEQ and/or EPA.
- Experience in litigation, investigations, and risk management related to environmental, health, and safety matters is preferred.
