Corporate & Compliance Attorney

Cartiga is a financial services firm in growth mode seeking a Corporate & Compliance Counsel to guide the company through a dynamic and complex regulatory environment. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the role is primarily responsible for managing the continuing development, implementation, and assessment of Cartiga’s regulatory compliance infrastructure. The role will also assist the General Counsel in rendering legal advice to the company in connection with operational compliance, litigation, intellectual property considerations, transactional and contractual matters, labor and employment issues and marketing strategies.

What you will take on:

Compliance:

  • Lead the company’s regulatory compliance efforts, including (i) monitoring, reviewing and interpreting applicable state legislation and regulations and (ii) implementing processes to ensure the company complies with applicable state and federal legal and regulatory requirements in the consumer legal funding and commercial lending industries.
  • Support colleagues across the company with regulatory guidance in connection with the development and implementation of new products, services, and features.
  • Serve as the company’s main point of contact with supervisory authorities in connection with license application processes, examinations and supervisory requests.
  • Oversee the company’s management of legal entity licensing and registration, including nationwide registration and licensing requirements for all corporate entities.

Collaborate with across the company to enhance and maintain written policies and procedures, and ensure adequate controls are in place, to prevent, detect, and resolve compliance breaches.

Analyze internal business systems to ensure compliance with industry regulations and ethical standards.

Operations and Litigation Support:

Work closely with the company’s Operations and Servicing leadership regarding pre-litigation collection strategies, legal risks, and compliance issues.

Negotiate settlements and payment arrangements with obligors, aiming to reach mutually beneficial outcomes while protecting the company’s interests.

Oversee outside counsel’s representation of the company in collections-related legal proceedings related to collections, including review of legal documents, such as demand letters, complaints, summonses, motions, and affidavits, ensuring accuracy, adherence to legal requirements, and effective communication of the company’s position.

Corporate and Contractual Support:

Ensure contract activity and administration is in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.

Review, revise and negotiate vendor services, broker and non-disclosure agreements.

Provide legal and compliance advise regarding the company’s marketing programs and materials.

Interact with all facets of the organization to ensure compliance with contract obligations.


Who you are:

You have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and are licensed to practice law in the United States.

Preferably, you have a minimum of three (3) years of law firm or in-house experience advising non-bank consumer financial services companies on compliance with state and federal law.

You are able to build strong working relationships with internal clients at all levels and work within cross-functional teams to institute compliant processes and to develop solutions to complex compliance issues

You are proficient with computers and comfortable working in multiple systems to process and track work.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
