Examples Of Duties

This position coordinates some aspects of the Tacoma Public School (TPS) District student assessment program; schedules District and State assessment activities; orders, distributes, and accounts for District-wide student assessment materials; assists in developing assessment materials; implements District and State assessment support materials and training, as needed; coordinates processing and distribution of test results and assists in the design and maintenance of District assessment relational database and analysis systems.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Schedules and coordinates District testing program activities to meet Federal, State, and District testing requirements; compiles, inventories, and distributes assessment/testing materials to schools, as needed; maintains records for assessment and testing materials and reports; locates missing documents; performs answer document processing, as needed; ensures accuracy and timeliness of score reports for the purpose of coordinating some aspects of the student assessment program
  • Assists in the design and maintenance of the District assessment relational database and analysis systems; may work with design expert for software vendors, as needed; verifies accuracy of data files; corrects errors as necessary; manipulates and compiles data from technical source documents; performs data analysis using spreadsheets and statistical software to report test scores, percentages, and correlations as directed; produces custom statistical reports and prepares graphic, narrative, and tabular reports for the purpose of managing some aspects of the student assessment program
  • Coordinates and negotiates timelines with test publishers, local scoring services, and the State and District student information program; monitors contract compliance of consultants and/or contracted agencies for the purpose of accounting for the District student assessment materials.
  • Develops, compiles, and maintains procedure manuals for the District-wide assessment program; establishes timelines, prepares for and conducts regularly scheduled meetings with building test coordinators; maintains web page for Assessment, Research & Evaluation department; provides technical assistance to building principals, test coordinators, and appropriate TPS administrators for student assessment, on student participation and individual accommodation for the purpose of implementing District and State assessment support materials and training.
  • Prepares summary reports and presentations for building administrators, management team, and Board of Directors; responds to staff and community inquiries regarding student assessment for the purpose of coordinating some aspects of the student assessment program
  • May verify scan ability of documents; makes recommendations for improvements; provides technical assistance in troubleshooting and/or resolving hardware/software problems related to the scanner, as knowledge permits; assists with design and development of scan sheets for District and community use for the purpose of accounting for District student assessment materials
  • Assists with the development of a variety of new District test and assessment materials, including selection of test items, developing test administration manuals, assists in the answer document design, and preparation of training materials; maintains documentation on test development activities for the purpose of assisting in development of assessment materials.
  • Assures the security of testing materials and student assessment records; trains building administration staff and test coordinators on appropriate test security; provides assistance on issues of test security; receives and completes initial documentation of breeches of test administration rules and test security for the purpose of accounting for the District student assessment materials.
  • Oversees the compilation, maintenance, and distribution of District and building data notebooks/summaries for the purpose of coordinating the processing and distribution of test results.
  • Manages the preparation and shipment of answer documents not processed in-house to commercial processing site for the purpose of coordinating some aspects of the student assessment program.

  • Performs special research and prepares special reports
  • May serve on State and regional committees to represent the department and the District in areas of student assessment
  • May provide lead direction for departmental and temporary assessment support staff
  • Oversees equipment inventory for department
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, on a temporary basis.
  • Regular, reliable, predictable, attendance or physical presence is an essential job requirement and critical to the performance of the work

CONDITIONS

Office environment; requires prolonged visual concentration and exposure to video display; required to work overtime as needed; experiences frequent interruptions; may be required to attend meetings at various sites; required to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb, and/or be mobile, and move/lift heavy objects up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Associate degree or equivalent course work in Computer Science, or closely related quantitative field; Bachelors degree in related field, preferred; and three years of experience maintaining detailed data and numeric records; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work

Licenses/Special Requirements

Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance

Allowable Substitution

Additional closely related work experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis

Ability to perform arithmetical calculations and statistical analyses accurately

Ability to concentrate on detail and be precise

Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines for multiple projects occurring simultaneously

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socio-economic setting

Ability to operate a computer, associated peripheral and electronic scanning equipment and program related computer scoring software applications.
