Coordinator of Information Systems and Research Librarian

Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Director of Library Services, the Coordinator of Information Systems and Research Librarian plays a crucial role in

developing information systems to bolster library initiatives and services in collaboration with librarians and ACHE IT staff. They identify emerging technologies for our services at the Taylor Health Sciences Library. Collaborating with Librarians, faculty, and students, the position enhances students’ research skills through instructional delivery and reference services, both virtually and in person. Key responsibilities include managing library information systems, overseeing the institutional repository, supporting research, systematic reviews, open access initiatives, and contributing to electronic resource management.

Essential Functions And Responsibilites

  • Develop and maintain an online presence for the library in distance education programs, providing instruction, responding to reference inquiries, and disseminating information during daytime and some evening hours.
  • Engage with faculty, administrators, healthcare providers, and students of ACHE to discern their teaching, learning, and research requirements.
  • Create customized LibGuides and tools to facilitate the exploration and utilization of library resources.
  • Serve as Information Systems Librarian for various services and platforms such as OpenAthens, Koha, and Springshare.
  • Contribute to electronic resource management.
  • Collaborate with other liaisons to facilitate sharing scholarly outputs, including publications and research data.
  • Manage and promote the institutional repository, ensuring a seamless workflow for the submission of scholarly outputs.
  • Provide leadership and support on open access initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Library Services.
  • Assist in systematic review and meta-analysis endeavors.
  • Engage in faculty meetings, interact with student groups, and participate in institutional committees as required.
  • Pursue professional development and continuing education opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services and their designee.


Qualifications And Credentials

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Curiosity and drive to acquire new skills and knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Ability to be flexible and creative in response to rapidly changing needs and priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view, and supporting an inclusive educational and employment environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years’ experience in an academic and/or health sciences library environment.
  • Experience providing library instruction and reference services.
  • Working knowledge of health information resources (CINAHL, PubMed, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of copyright and fair use guidelines.
  • Familiarity with applications that support or enhance online learning environments such as LibGuides, Canvas, and Camtasia.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice principles.
  • Basic web-design, coding, and HTML skills.

  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies to include, but not limited to, pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboards, telephone, etc.
  • May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
  • May require significant travel or work away from campus.
  • Requires attendance at events representing ACHE both within, as well as outside of, the college setting.
  • Frequently required to work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Frequently required to see for purposes of reading matter.
  • Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Occasionally required to lift items in a normal office environment.
  • Frequently required to operate office and presentation equipment.
