Coordinator for Adult Education - English as a Second Language

Position Summary

The Coordinator for Adult Education, ESL provides program support, coordination with partner organizations and professional development for instructors who engage adults in adult basic and secondary education, as well as support for transition to work or post-secondary education. This position will also plan, instruct, and assesses adult students in ESL (English Second Language) skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution or equivalent foreign credential

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in education or related field
  • Experience in working with students to mitigate barriers and provide access to equitable educational services
  • Experience in standards aligned curriculum development, workforce and postsecondary advisement, and utilizing student data to make educational decisions
  • Experience in providing professional development or training in related field
  • Experience in working with English as a Second Language students
  • Valid and active Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate
  • Teaching experience

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all duties as defined by the Adult Education 064 Grant
    • Provide support to adult education instructors
    • Assist adult education instructors in implementing standards-aligned curricula
  • Conduct program orientations, intake and assessment processes
  • Support student and volunteer outreach, recruitment, and support
  • Maintain a working knowledge of guidelines, regulations, and procedures relevant to the specific programmatic areas in which coordination is to be provided
  • Assist in the development and coordination of innovative programming with Title I and other WIOA and core/community partners and maintain a positive working relationship with appropriate stakeholders, funding agents, and IU staff
  • Collaborate with program staff in the coordination of periodically reviewing student goals and/or adjusting student placement
  • Assist in the development and submission of program proposals and/or grants and oversee clerical accuracy of all documents
  • Assist in the accurate and timely collection of appropriate programmatic data, and submission to appropriate parties in accordance with program and IU guidelines
  • Maintain effective communications with, and provide regular program updates to Program Supervisor(s), Assistant Director, and Director
  • Maintain current and accurate inventory of all program equipment
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of adult students
  • Apply knowledge of current research and adult learning theory to instruction
  • Develop and implement instruction aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards, Webb's Depth of Knowledge, and the Foundation Skills Framework to prepare ABE/ASE/ESL adult students to transition to employment and/or post-secondary education or training
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs and abilities of individual adult students
  • Participate in required professional development
  • Utilize technology and video conferencing software
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and educational environment. Incumbent must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time. This role routinely uses office equipment, with a majority of the time utilizing computers to complete daily tasks. This position requires traveling primarily within the Northwest Pennsylvania region and, on occasion, throughout the state. Candidates are required to have a vehicle and valid driver's license to attend job related duties, meetings, seminars, and training(s).
