Coordinating Producer, 2024 Election Coverage (Temporary)

We are seeking a full-time temporary Coordinating Producer to oversee and coordinate the production of the New York Post’s national election coverage. We’re focused on the key swing states and will be creating video content that features voters, experts and insiders who unearth key insights that portray the national mood.


Ideal applicant has a savvy political news sense and must be confident overseeing the incoming videos from pitch process through final deliverables and oversee all aspects of production such as: communicating with reporters and freelance shooters to coordinate logistics, set camera and edit specs, develop schedules and supervise deliverables in post. This role reports to the Production Manager and Head of Production, who will train the person to oversee the series.

Duration: This is a temporary full-time position expected to start immediately and run through the end of November.


Responsibilities include:

  • Research, develop and pitch video ideas daily.
  • Plot coverage of campaign events, candidate rallies and political developments and voter-preference trends.
  • Field pitches from our network of state stringers, reporters and political news desk that are on brand for the series.
  • Seek out qualified producers/shooters/editors to tackle projects from the field, developing a roster of talent.
  • Communicate and stay organized with various stringers, staying on top of schedule, budget, shoot dates and the post process.
  • Communicate thoroughly with stringers to ensure everyone is on the same page with logistics and coordination.
  • Providing feedback on schedules, interview questions and shot treatments.
  • Ensure all stringers have the right specs, Post & Style Guides before shooting.
  • Review cuts and supply notes through all rounds of post production.
  • Uphold the Post’s journalistic integrity and ethical standards.


Qualifications

  • Experience in video production and editing; editing skill-set in Premiere Pro is key for clipping and cut downs
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate a team of reporters, videographers, and editors.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with facility in building rapport and establishing trust with field staff
  • Knowledgeable on capturing video on iPhones and Androids, plus familiarity of microphone options for smartphones
  • Familiarity with video on all platforms and know what videos perform well on social platforms. Must be aware of latest formats and trends in digital video as a distinct form of content versus television
  • Flexibility to work outside traditional business hours to cover campaign events and breaking news as needed
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Project management software like Airtable, Monday, etc. a plus. Organization is key
  • Ability to understand and create content relevant to political news; experience in political and/or campaign coverage a plus
  • Ability to work very quickly and juggle many assignments throughout the day
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required; this applicant must always exhibit professionalism, a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ positive attitude
  • Organized, resourceful, and a team player
  • Prioritize instantly, plan for contingencies and manage all elements of a production.
