COO - Ophthalmology Practice

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative individual to serve as the practice's Chief Operations Officer (COO). This practice is an independent, well-established (40+ years) multi-location advanced eyecare practice located in Fredericksburg, VA. Our talented and award-winning team of Ophthalmologists and Optometrists offers an extensive array of services to patients in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and the surrounding region.

The COO is responsible for the fiscal and operational stability of the organization. This role would be expected to identify growth opportunities and develop alliances with key stakeholders to further enhance the organization. In partnership with the Practice owners, the COO will help define and lead the future vision and direction of the organization.

Position requirements for the COO:

Strategy Development:

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight to all facets of the practice including Clinical Operations, Business Services, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Compliance.
• Provide direction and guidance in day-to-day administrative matters.
• Provide leadership to the practice owners in developing and implementing an effective strategic plan.
• Examine, develop, and recommend new business opportunities, partnerships and strategic alliances in support of the strategic plan and short / long term objectives.

Staff Management and Engagement:

• Oversee all mid-level managers.
• Maintain a visible presence in all practice locations and offer consistent access to all staff.
• Review/analyze staff performance including financial and productivity data for each area and make the appropriate changes in strategies, goals, and objectives responding to current status and conditions.
• Develop, coach, motivate and recognize staff to encourage optimal performance.

Revenue Cycle - Understand the revenue cycle and work with the practices billing company and owners to optimize performance.

Compliance - Ensure compliance with current healthcare regulations, laws, and ethics.

Information Technology - Manage and communicate with all IT vendors and software companies including, but not limited to, practice management systems, EHR, practice network, etc.

Program Development - Evaluate and assess new programs and initiatives to support practice growth and development.

REQUIREMENTS

• Seven years of executive level experience including five years of experience in the administration of a major medical practice.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
• Ability to excel in a complex, high-paced, environment.
• Experience with Strategic Planning and implementation.
• Strong financial and analytical skills.
• Must be well organized, reliable, and self-motivated.
• Above average computer and program skills.
• Bachelors Degree in business or related field, Masters preferred or equivalent work experience
