The Opportunity

Wesper is seeking a Controller to own and manage the day to day finance and accounting needs of the business as we rapidly grow. The Controller will oversee all aspects of the Accounting function including month-end close, financial reporting, the annual and interim audit process, and all A/P, A/R, payroll functions Reporting directly to the CEO, you will work directly with stakeholders across the company and executive team to oversee financial accounting, reporting, and the overall control environment. This role requires a solid understanding of key technical financial accounting concepts and will be a hands-on leader within the organization. This is a fully remote position.

Responsibilities

Finance Operation

  • Build, Lead, support, and develop the finance aspects of Wesper
  • Drive efficiency & automation to keep up with the demands of our diverse business.
  • Participate and lead improvements in internal financial and system processes
  • Take an active role in managing projects and improving processes
  • Lead all aspects of accounting, including implementation of processes and internal controls necessary for GAAP standards, and develop and scale the organization for growth
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures

Reporting & Bookkeeping

  • Manage all monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, including account reconciliations, accrual schedules, and general journal entries, ensuring that reconciliations are performed accurately and on-time
  • Responsible for annual external audit preparation and oversight
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Perform and implement different controls to ensure proper posting in the books

Audit & Taxation

  • Manage all tax-related responsibilities
  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns for Company's US and international operations
  • Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures

Planning, Policies & Procedures

  • Support budget preparation, tracking, and reporting
  • Implementation of internal controls, financial policies and procedures
  • Verify proper implementation of the company's processes and policies

Analysis of financial results and performance

  • Prepare different analyses and assist with various tasks related to everyday activity
  • Assisting with Company’s special projects as well as Investors requests
  • Ad hoc accounting and finance-related projects as needed

Legal liaison

  • Support interactions by senior management with outside counsel
  • Provide support across the business for legal needs e.g. commercial contracts, IP, corporate documentation etc

Required Experience

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a major within a business, accounting, or finance field
  • 3-5 years of experience in an accounting position in a growing company from a relevant industry; prior experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm is preferred
  • 3-5 years experience working inside rapidly growing hi-tech companies
  • Experience with a broad range of financial activities which demonstrate likely ability to fulfill responsibilities below
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with deep experience in the areas of revenue recognition, accounting, tax and compliance with US GAAP
  • Excellent knowledge of internal controls and ability to identify and recommend new changes to controls
  • Very strong communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
  • Background in working with Stripe, Shopify, and Quickbooks
  • Experience with software and hardware accounting principles

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $90-$115k based on a wide range of compensation factors. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Total compensation will also include an equity component.
