Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our Accounting & Finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and financial management, with a keen understanding of the unique demands of a PE-backed construction company. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage financial operations in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop and manage the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
- Provide accurate and insightful financial forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Monitor budget performance and report on variances, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Design and implement robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant financial and tax regulations.
- Conduct regular internal audits and reviews to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
Cash Management:
- Oversee cash flow planning and management to ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
- Manage banking relationships and negotiate credit facilities as needed.
- Monitor and optimize working capital, including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback to team members.
- Ensure the accounting team has the necessary resources and training to perform their duties effectively.
Strategic Financial Management:
- Support the CFO and senior management team with financial analysis and insights to drive business performance.
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
- Provide financial due diligence and integration support for potential acquisitions.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, the board of directors, and PE investors.
- Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, and tax advisors.
- Respond to financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders promptly and professionally.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a controller role.
- Experience in the construction industry and knowledge of construction accounting principles.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Oracle) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
