Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our Accounting & Finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and financial management, with a keen understanding of the unique demands of a PE-backed construction company. This role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage financial operations in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.


Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop and manage the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
  • Provide accurate and insightful financial forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor budget performance and report on variances, providing recommendations for corrective actions.


Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Design and implement robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant financial and tax regulations.
  • Conduct regular internal audits and reviews to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.


Cash Management:

  • Oversee cash flow planning and management to ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
  • Manage banking relationships and negotiate credit facilities as needed.
  • Monitor and optimize working capital, including accounts receivable and accounts payable.


Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide regular feedback to team members.
  • Ensure the accounting team has the necessary resources and training to perform their duties effectively.


Strategic Financial Management:

  • Support the CFO and senior management team with financial analysis and insights to drive business performance.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Provide financial due diligence and integration support for potential acquisitions.


Stakeholder Communication:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, the board of directors, and PE investors.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, and tax advisors.
  • Respond to financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders promptly and professionally.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a controller role.
  • Experience in the construction industry and knowledge of construction accounting principles.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Oracle) and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
