Stedi

Controller

Stedi United States

We're solving EDI

At Stedi, we’re rebuilding the technological backbone of the B2B economy. Trillions of dollars flow annually through a global network of commerce via an archaic protocol called Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), but there hasn’t been a major new EDI platform in decades.

In the healthcare sector, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) requires that all insurance carriers exchange transactions such as claims, eligibility checks, prior authorizations, and enrollments using a standardized EDI format called X12 HIPAA. A small group of legacy clearinghouses process the majority of these transactions, offering consolidated connectivity to carriers and providers.

Stedi is building the world’s only API-first clearinghouse. By offering modern API interfaces alongside traditional real-time and batch EDI processes, we enable both healthcare technology businesses and established players to exchange mission-critical transactions.

Stedi has lightning in a bottle: engineers and designers shipping products week in and week out; a lean business team supporting the company’s infrastructure; passion for automation and eliminating toil; $71 million in funding from top investors like Stripe, Addition, USV, Bloomberg Beta, First Round Capital, and more.

What We’re Looking For

Stedi is hiring a Controller to lead Stedi’s financial operations and develop best practices as we rapidly scale. We’re looking for a highly motivated individual who is driven by building a best-in-class financial function. You will be responsible for overseeing accounting, implementing strong internal financial controls, and developing scalable systems to ensure the health of the business over time.

What You'll Do

  • Build scalable systems and processes for our global team. As the second member of our accounting team, you’ll iterate on the financial foundation across banking, taxation, bookkeeping, and expense management to ensure our finances are accurate and the business can effectively scale. You’ll carefully launch processes and policies that increase controls while not slowing the company down.
  • Lead Stedi’s financial operations. You’ll be responsible for understanding and communicating the financial state of the business, including the preparation of Stedi’s financial statements.
  • Prepare the company for audits. You’ll proactively ensure the company is always ready for the next audit or due diligence event.
  • Influence company strategy. You’ll ensure that finance is a strategic function and will proactively take steps to shape the future of the business. From financing strategy to GTM negotiations, you will seamlessly transition across operational and strategic workstreams.
  • You’ll be an owner. We believe in hiring great people and removing any obstacles that get in their way. You’ll be given full autonomy to own our financials, continue to build out the accounting function, and work directly with leadership on decisions that shape the future of the business.

Who You Are

  • You are an experienced accounting / financial professional. You have 6+ years of accounting experience across various disciplines and have expert knowledge of auditing, US taxation, NetSuite, month-end close process, US GAAP, and IFRS. CPA preferred.
  • You have driven impact in a high-growth startup. You have worked in a fast-paced environment, built from the ground up, and you understand what “best in class” looks like at scale.
  • You have a track record of influencing outcomes. You take a first-principles approach to solving challenges to achieve the best outcome for our business. You proactively perform strategic analysis and make recommendations that shape the future of the business.
  • You create and execute your own work. You thrive in ambiguity and enjoy rolling up your sleeves no matter the challenge. You understand how to prioritize and ask for help when it’s needed.
  • You take pride in what you do. Integrity is one of your core values, and you care deeply about building financial practices that will ensure the long-term health of the business.
  • Philosophical alignment with the Stedi Standards.

At Stedi, we're looking for people who are deeply curious and aligned to our ways of working. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't perfectly match the job description. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of any status protected under federal, state, or local law.
